Intermediate Accountant
Canadian Benefit Providers is a leading Third-Party Administrator and Claims Payor specializing in Group Benefits. Our services are distributed through an independent Broker network.
The Intermediate Accountant role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization, including reconciliations, journal entries, reporting, and month-end processes, while ensuring accurate financial records and effective internal controls.
Role - Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Intermediate Accountant supports the daily operations of a growing finance department by applying strong technical accounting knowledge across the full accounting cycle. The role requires a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities, improve processes through technology, and build positive relationships with internal teams and external clients through strong communication and collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary finance contact for the Business, Member Services, and Technical Teams to support clients onboarding, maintenance, and inquiries
- Prepare weekly and monthly client premium and claims invoicing
- Perform broker commission reconciliations and analysis
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations, deposits, and cash management activities
- Prepare clients’ cash reserve statements and related reporting
- Prepare and remit statutory filings, including federal, provincial, and corporate tax returns
- Assist with month-end working papers, reconciliations, and financial analysis for the Executive Team
- Maintain Member Health Spending Accounts
- Respond to internal and external client inquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting, or equivalent education and experience
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience in an accounting role
- Currently pursuing a CPA designation (Year 2 or higher preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience using QuickBooks accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Experience researching accounting issues and recommending practical solutions
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with all levels of staff
