Position Summary
The Skating Instructor plays an essential role in creating a positive, engaging, and supportive environment for skaters of all ages and skill levels. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a love for skating, and helping each participant develop confidence and skill on the ice. The Instructor contributes to the overall success of the skating program by maintaining an atmosphere of fun, learning, and excellence — both on and off the ice. Through collaboration, communication, and enthusiasm, the Instructor supports the Head of Skating in cultivating a strong sense of community and achievement among members and colleagues alike.
Position Responsibilities
- Bring beautiful energy to the skaters & members when teaching and interacting
- Help assist with the program to develop the environment of skating & learning
- Assist with set up, attendance, class management & coaching excellence at all sessions
- Be willing to teach any level and age of skater with intention
- Build relationships with colleagues in a respectful & collaborative way
- Be able to use technology at an up-to-date level including but not limited to WhatsApp Group Chats and Digital Attendance Systems
- Remain up to date with rules changes in the skating landscape appropriate to levels of instruction
- Communicate any challenges or ideas directly with the Head of Skating to bring about solutions
- Celebrate skaters on their personal achievements through efforts made
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be Skate Canada Certified Coach and in Good Standing
- Regional Coaching In-Training at Minimum / Certified would be an asset; Canskate Certified is a Must
- Communication skills with both skaters of all ages & their parents
- Team Coaching oriented and willing to work with others in professional manner in varying circumstances
- Healthy and able to be on the ice and active during all shifts
- Strong time management – able to show up punctually and ready for focused teaching no matter what level of skating
- Strong skating ability & technique
- Open mindedness to a progressive skating program with a future focus
- Willingness to learn, adjust, and pivot with a growing and changing program

Working Conditions
- This position operates 100% on-site
- Regular evenings or weekend work may be required during peak periods or special events
- Own transportation is an asset as public transportation is not frequent to/from the Club
- Candidates must agree to complete a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector search as part of the onboarding process
