The Opportunity
We are looking for Nurse Practitioner to join our Health Services Team at CUPS. CUPS Nurse Practitioners are responsible for providing trauma-informed, low barrier, primary care services to vulnerable Calgarians with complex health and social needs. This CUPS Nurse Practitioner role will be part of one of CUPS’ interdisciplinary primary care teams, with opportunities to work within either the Primary Care Clinic or the Prenatal and Family Health Clinic team
The Nurse Practitioner will facilitate the provision of health care to people through health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health education, health promotion, illness prevention, and chronic disease management. The Nurse Practitioner will work with individuals and families to achieve client-defined goals and support wellness and quality of life.
Within the Primary Care Clinic, the Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive primary care to adults with complex health and social needs, including supporting individuals experiencing barriers related to poverty, mental health, substance use, housing, and other social determinants of health. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide accessible, integrated, and trauma-informed care.
Within the Prenatal and Family Health Clinic, the Nurse Practitioner will provide holistic primary care to women and gender-diverse individuals with uteruses, including prenatal, postpartum, reproductive, pediatric, and family health services. The Nurse Practitioner will support individuals and families throughout pregnancy and the transition to parenthood, while working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary PFHC team and other CUPS services.
Regardless of clinic assignment, the Nurse Practitioner will provide services within CUPS' primary service delivery models of integrated and trauma-informed care by operating in partnership with internal CUPS services, linking people to appropriate support both within CUPS and externally as needed.

- Contract type: Variable FTE, with a minimum of 0.2 FTE and a maximum of 0.9 FTE Permenant
- Schedule: Full-time, Mon to Fri, Hours per week
- Starting salary: $58.85 to $63.89.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Create an approachable, caring and trauma-informed environment for clients in every interaction
- Provide holistic primary care within the NP's scope of practice and in accordance with the Health Professions Act, applicable professional standards, and the standards and requirements of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
- Participate in the CUPS mission to support the learning and development of new professionals through preceptorship activities and support the education and training of all learners stationed within CUPS
- Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-informed practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in daily huddles with a multidisciplinary team to support closed-loop communication and timely delivery of services
- Act as an ambassador of CUPS' mission and values both internally and externally
Organizational Alignment and Performance:
- Assess for disability supports eligibility, including Income Assistance, AISH, EI Disability, CPP Disability, and private or 3rd party assessments, along with completing the required forms and documentation
- Support health screening, prevention, immunization, and health promotion initiatives.
- Facilitate complex case management for clients, families, and communities
- Support wellness in chronic disease management
- Participate in formal and informal health teaching, including the preventative health concepts concerning health issues
- Collaborate with social work and other CUPS programs to address barriers related to housing, income, food security, transportation, identification, medication coverage, and other social determinants of health.
- Assist in developing programs through partnerships with the community, based on needs expressed by health care providers and the community
- Complete all CUPS mandatory training to ensure your practice and interactions are congruent with agency expectations and legislated parameters
- Facilitate the maintenance of accurate and complete health records that meet the demands of interdisciplinary care, the Alberta Health Information Act, and all other relevant provincial and federal legislation.
For the Prenatal and Family Health Clinic:
- Provide prenatal, postpartum, reproductive, and family health care.
- Provide comprehensive primary care to women and gender-diverse individuals with uteruses.
- Provide pediatric health care, including developmental screening and anticipatory guidance.
- Provide prenatal and postpartum health education and support.
- Support individuals and families throughout pregnancy and the transition to parenthood.
- Support health promotion and illness prevention initiatives related to prenatal, reproductive, and family health.
- Facilitate connections to community and social supports for individuals and families experiencing complex health and social needs.
- Participate in outreach, education, and community initiatives that improve access to prenatal and family health services.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Foster a healthy and safe working environment per CUPS health & safety training, policies and procedures
- Participate in organizational activities, including in-house training, team activities, lunch and learns, and other opportunities that support connection and organizational awareness.
Employment Requirements
- Minimum Education: Master of Nursing via an approved Nurse Practitioner Program
- Active licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta CRNA as a Nurse Practitioner in good standing
- Successful candidates must complete a Police Information Check
- Computer competency & experience with an electronic medical record is necessary
- Knowledge of community resources connected to the provision of health promotion and illness prevention-related services
- Experience working with equity-deserving populations and people who experience barriers to accessing health and social services.
- Knowledge and experience in harm reduction approaches to care and the social determinants of health

- Ability to work independently while recognizing when consultation and collaboration are required.
- Excellent written, communication, organizational and time management skills with the ability to take the initiative and work with limited supervision but within the guidelines of the position
- For the Prenatal and Family Health clinic, experience in prenatal, postpartum, reproductive, women's, pediatric, or family health is an asset.
- Experience working within a community health, primary care, public health, or similar setting is an asset.
- Experience in providing opioid agonist treatment is an asset
Work Conditions
- Exposure to trauma and emotionally complex cases.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting (minimum 35lbs)
