Position Summary:
The CNC Milling Set-Up Operator is responsible for setting up CNC milling centers, proving out first-off parts, monitoring production quality, and ensuring efficient machine operation. The successful candidate will be a skilled machinist with strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC milling centers for production runs.
- Set up, prove out and perform first-piece inspections on part operation before releasing jobs to production.
- Conduct random quality checks throughout production runs to ensure parts meet drawing specifications and tolerance requirements.
- Verify that all required machining operations have been completed and that dimensions conform to customer and engineering requirements.
- Return jigs, fixtures, special tooling, and related equipment to the Tool Room Coordinator upon completion of production runs.
- Return all clamps, fasteners, parallels, springs, and set up hardware to their designated storage locations.
- Monitor machine performance and report maintenance or service requirements to the supervisor.
- Ensure all required secondary operations are completed and that finished parts are transferred to the deburring area as required.
- Notify the Production Coordinator of material shortages or issues that may impact production schedules.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company standards.
- Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Machine Shop Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of CNC machining and setup experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining drawings, GD&T, measuring instruments, and precision inspection techniques.
- Demonstrated success working in a production manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional work habits, reliability, and housekeeping practices.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and machine shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and moving equipment.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required to support production demands.
- Must provide and maintain personal hand tools appropriate for the position.
- Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and climb as required.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs. (23 kg).
- Manual dexterity required for handling tools, measuring equipment, and machine components.
- Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and equipment.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices at all times.
- Wear and maintain required PPE in accordance with company requirements.
- Immediately report all unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, injuries, near-misses, or safety concerns to one of the following:
- Participate in safety training and contribute to maintaining a safe workplace for all employees.
- Stop working and notify management if an unsafe condition exists that may endanger personnel, equipment, or property.
