Customer Service, Yard & Delivery Associate
Position Summary
The Customer Service, Yard & Delivery Associate is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the warehouse, yard, inventory, shipping, receiving, and delivery functions while assisting with customer service and inside branch activities as business needs require. This role ensures products are received, stored, loaded, transported, and delivered safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of customer service, inventory accuracy, and workplace safety.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, customer-oriented, and committed to maintaining an organized and efficient operation. This position requires regular operation of company delivery trucks, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Yard Operations
- Receive, inspect, unload, and organize corrugated steel pipe, culverts, drainage products, guide rail systems, sign posts, snow plow blades and wear parts, custom fabricated products, and related materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and yard.
- Organize inventory to maximize storage efficiency, accessibility, and safe material handling.
- Assist with yard organization, product staging, and loading operations.
- Perform routine housekeeping and seasonal yard maintenance, including snow removal.
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory using ERP and inventory management systems.
- Perform cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Report inventory shortages, discrepancies, or damaged materials.
- Assist with inventory organization, stock replenishment, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
Shipping, Receiving & Truck Deliveries
- Pick, stage, load, secure, and unload customer orders for pickup and delivery.
- Operate company delivery trucks to transport products safely and efficiently to customer locations.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured and comply with applicable transportation regulations and company safety standards.
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes while maintaining delivery schedules.
- Obtain proof of delivery, customer signatures, and accurately complete shipping, receiving, and transportation documentation.
- Coordinate delivery schedules with customers, dispatch, and branch personnel.
- Maintain cleanliness and general condition of assigned delivery vehicles.
- Provide professional, courteous customer service during deliveries and resolve routine delivery issues as appropriate.
Customer Service
- Assist customers with safely loading materials.
- Provide courteous, professional service during customer pickups and deliveries.
- Develop product knowledge to assist customers with product selection and inquiries.
- Assist with order processing and inside sales support as training and business needs require.
- Represent the company professionally at customer sites and maintain positive customer relationships.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate forklifts, delivery trucks, trailers, and other material handling equipment.
- Perform daily inspections of forklifts, trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Report equipment defects, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns immediately.
- Follow all Occupational Health & Safety regulations, transportation regulations, and company safe work procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Class G driver's license with a clean driving record (DZ license considered an asset if applicable).
- Experience operating light- or medium-duty delivery trucks preferred.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, logistics, shipping/receiving, or product delivery preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP or inventory management systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, delivery trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment.
- Ability to load, secure, and unload materials safely using proper lifting techniques and equipment.
