Job Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing Grader Operators within the Public Works Department to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Key responsibility of this role is the training, mentorship, and supervision of Grader Operators, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, and support necessary to perform their duties safely and effectively. Other responsibilities include planning and coordinating daily operations, scheduling and supervising staff, monitoring project progress, and ensuring the effective maintenance of County infrastructure, including roads, bridges, streets, culverts, facilities, tree cleanup, and other County-owned assets. The position conducts regular inspections of County infrastructure to identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and report potential issues
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Employee Management
- Provide feedback and directions to Grader Operators throughout the day regarding issues, updates, requirements, and emerging needs.
- Address employee performance, in partnership with the General Manager of Operations and the Public Works Manager.
- Provide on the job training and coaching to all Grader Operators, to meet Lac Ste. Anne County standards.
- Ensure work environment promotes staff participation, teamwork, and positive labour relations.
- Ensure policies and processes are in place and being adhered to by the Grader Operators.
Operations, Quality Control & Service Delivery
- Conduct inspections to ensure all standards are maintained and identify and address issues prior to escalation by a third party.
- Observe road conditions and make recommendations to the Public Works Manager for improvements beyond the scope of maintenance needs.
- Assess rate payer requests for service considering health & safety, service levels, costs, timelines, and approval levels.
- Assist with the coordination and monitoring or work performed by external contractors.
- Resolve complaints, as assigned by the Public Works Manager.
- Work collaboratively with all departments to achieve Council’s strategic goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the General Manager of Operations or Manager of Public Works.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Previous experience in transportation, Public Works, road maintenance, municipal operations, or the construction industry.
- Experience coordinating, supervising, and managing employee performance, productivity, and daily work activities.
- Experience conducting inspections, evaluating work quality, and resolving operational issues in the field.
- Experience working within a rural municipal environment is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.

Working Conditions
- This is a full‑time, permanent position.
- Regular work schedule of forty-four (44) hours per week; Monday to Thursday (7:00 am to 4:30 pm) and Friday (7:00 am to 3:30 pm)
- Requires flexibility in hours due to weather conditions, emergencies, and operational needs.
- Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- Exposure to elevated levels of noise, dust, and fumes.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg.
- Physical requirements include bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and sitting for extended periods.
