Community Connector – Elwick Community School
Position Summary
The Community Connector plays a key role in strengthening relationships between the school, families, and the broader community. This position supports a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment while aligning community-based initiatives with school priorities and the goals of the Community Schools Programming (CSP).
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment.
- Build and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with students, families, and caregivers.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies to improve access to supports and services.
- Establish and sustain partnerships with community organizations, service providers, and local businesses.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement workshops, events, and programming for families and caregivers based on identified needs.
- Support before- and after-school and summer programming.
- Create and maintain a community space within the school that promotes belonging and engagement.
- Collaborate with school staff to align programming with school priorities.
- Assist with grant applications, funding proposals, and resource development.
- Maintain accurate records, submit receipts and work with finance department to meet reporting requirements.
- Gather community feedback to inform planning and continuous improvement.
- Support communication through newsletters, posters, email, and social media.
- Participate in meetings and professional learning related to CSP.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Community and Social Development, Social Service Work, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children, youth, families, or community-based organizations is an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and lived experience will be considered.
- Indigenous way of knowing, being and learning an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice, mental health literacy, and/or social-emotional learning.
- Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and a commitment to reconciliation and culturally responsive practice.
- Familiarity with the Community Schools Framework and equity-based approaches.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with grant writing, budgeting, and program coordination is an asset.
- Understanding of diverse community needs and strengths.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Term position beginning August 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension into the next school year.
