Position Summary
Helix Packaging is a growing Canadian food packaging manufacturer with multiple operations in the Greater Toronto Area. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team.
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the month-end close, financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, internal controls, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. This position will also provide technical guidance to junior accounting staff while helping strengthen and standardize accounting practices across the organization.
This role is well suited to an experienced accountant who enjoys improving processes, mentoring others, and working in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
● Support the timely completion of month-end and year-end close activities.
● Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries including accruals, prepaid expenses, payroll adjustments, depreciation, and other recurring entries.
● Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are appropriately supported.
● Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
● Support external audit and year-end reporting requirements.
General & Multi-Company Accounting
● Support accounting activities across multiple companies, including intercompany reconciliations and
expense allocations.
● Assist with inventory accounting, product costing, and fixed asset accounting.
● Assist with payroll accounting, payroll reconciliations, and related journal entries as required.
● Ensure accounting records comply with applicable accounting standards and support government and regulatory reporting requirements.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
● Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
● Assist in documenting accounting procedures and establishing best practices.
● Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls.
● Support the accuracy of accounting information flowing from operational systems.
● Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Team Support
● Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior accounting staff.
● Assist with training and knowledge sharing across the Accounting team.
● Support the Controller with special projects and operational initiatives.
Qualifications
● Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
● CPA designation (or near completion) preferred.
● Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience.
● Manufacturing experience preferred.
● Experience with inventory and cost accounting strongly preferred.
● Experience supporting multi-company accounting environments considered an asset.
● Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
● Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
● Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
● Experience working with QuickBooks Enterprise or similar ERP/accounting systems.
● Experience working with manufacturing or inventory management systems is an asset (Label Traxx, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics GP, AS400, etc.).
● Ability to analyze and reconcile large volumes of financial data from multiple systems.
● Strong organizational and time management skills; high attention to detail.

● Ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
● Collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset.
First-Year Objectives
Days 1–90
● Become familiar with the month-end close process, accounting systems, and multi-company structure.
● Begin supporting balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
● Build working relationships with the Controller and the Accounting team.
Months 3–6
● Become a key contributor to the month-end close process.
● Improve consistency and documentation of accounting procedures.
● Begin supporting the development of junior accounting staff.
Months 6–12
● Strengthen balance sheet reconciliations and internal controls.
● Assist in improving the efficiency of accounting operations.
● Provide reliable technical accounting support to the Controller.
