Accounts Payable Supervisor
Opportunity:
Venture Steel is a growing flat-rolled metal processor and distributor serving customers across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. We are looking for a Accounts Payable Supervisor to contribute to the company’s growth by overseeing Accounts Payable operations, supporting team performance, and taking initiative on continuous improvement projects. Reporting to the Controller this position will play an integral role in the full-cycle accounting process and in ensuring departmental deadlines and service expectations are consistently achieved.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable team, ensuring team priorities, workloads and deliverables are aligned with departmental objectives.
- Take accountability for timely and accurate processing and payment of vendor, intercompany and internal customer transactions, ensuring the team meets established deadlines and service standards.
- Provide clear direction, guidance and support to direct reports and internal stakeholders, proactively resolving issues and removing obstacles that may impact team results.
- Monitor monthly KPIs, identify variances and trends, and take ownership of corrective actions to improve team performance and departmental outcomes.
- Match, code and process large volumes of accounts payable invoices and payments in a timely manner.
- Ensure vendor inquiries are responded to within 24 hours.
- Request and review vendor statements and follow up on unpaid invoices on a regular basis.
- Review open transactions, including aged payables, accruals and credits, to ensure all outstanding items are valid, properly supported and resolved in a timely manner.
- Document Accounts Payable processes and procedures.
- Coordinate and communicate month-end closing activities for the Accounts Payable team, ensuring responsibilities are clearly assigned, progress is monitored and deadlines are achieved.
- Hire, train, coach and evaluate team members to strengthen performance, support employee development and ensure accountability for individual and team deliverables.
- Assist with audit and compliance requests.
- Proactively identify, recommend and lead process improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, reduce costs and support scalable departmental practices.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with senior management, internal customers, vendors and cross-functional partners to support timely issue resolution and alignment on priorities.
- Take initiative on special projects and analysis as required, demonstrating ownership, sound judgment and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 2–3 years of experience in a relevant field, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Great Plains, NetSuite or similar ERP experience is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong critical-thinking skills for effective issue resolution.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written form.
- Self-starter with a strong desire to automate, streamline and document processes.
- Fluent in Spanish is an asset

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
