Heartland Housing Foundation serves over 1000 households in Fort Saskatchewan & Strathcona County as a not-for-profit housing management body and the administrators for provincially funded rent supplement programs. We operate 12 properties, including affordable lodges, rent-geared-to-income seniors housing, and near market housing for all ages.

Position Overview
As a Recreation Assistant, you'll play a key role in making every day memorable at our lodge by helping organize and run a variety of activities and events. From setting up to taking down, you'll lend a hand with planning, logistics, and administrative tasks in our recreation department. Working closely with our Recreation Coordinator, you'll ensure our residents have a blast participating in our programs, strong customer service skills are a must. If you're friendly, upbeat, and can stay on your feet for extended periods, we want you on our team!
Responsibilities
Event, Activity and Program Execution and Evaluation
- Execute Events and Programs: Prepare for, set up, and execute tasks for events, activities, programs, and special occasions as directed by supervisors.
- Monitor Participation and Satisfaction: Assess resident and family participation in activities, gauge satisfaction levels, and provide feedback to enhance programming.
Operational and Administrative Responsibilities
- Provide Administrative Support: Assist in preparing correspondence, forms, presentations, and statistical information, ensuring accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Coordinate Special Events: Assist in planning and coordinating special events, including updating calendars, room bookings, and developing promotional materials.
- Manage Volunteer Program: Coordinate and support volunteers as part of the Volunteer Program.
- Animal Care: Provide attention and care to on-site animals, ensuring their well-being (e.g., birds, fish, etc.).
Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
- Cleanliness and Hygiene: Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, adhering to health standards at all times.
Requirements
- High School Diploma is required
- 1 year of previous related work or volunteer experience is an asset
- 1 - 2 years of previous administrative support is required
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and internet usage is required
- Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory
- First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be attained soon after hire
Working Conditions
- Ongoing customer service interaction and communication with staff, residents, visitors and volunteers
- Physical activity involving walking, standing, bending and lifting
- Must be able to lift, push and pull equipment and supplies in accordance with the position’s Physical Demands Analysis document
- Occasionally may be required to handle, clean, dispose, or move objects or materials and perform the cleanup of blood, infectious materials and/or other biohazards
- May handle and work with various cleaning products
- Shifts may change according to organizational needs and occasional overtime may be required
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant or abusive individuals
