Position Summary:
By utilizing the Wet’suwet’en holistic wellness conceptual framework, the ECD Bus Driver/Administrative Support Worker is responsible for safely operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. He/she must ensure that the school bus is always in good operating condition, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct.
The School Bus Driver must also deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The School Bus Driver must make notes of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Bus Driver PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: By utilizing the Wet’suwet’en holistic wellness conceptual framework, the ECD Bus Driver is responsible for:
- Operating the school bus in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Performing daily safety and maintenance checks;
- Performing minor maintenance duties such as changing the oil;
- Cleaning the bus as scheduled and/or required.
- Ensuring the bus is safely and securely stored;
- Advising the Early Childhood Development Coordinator of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;
- Picking up and delivering students as per a set schedule;
- Taking attendance on the school bus;
- Ensuring students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers;
- Maintaining order and discipline on the school bus;
- Making note of and reporting any behavioral or disciplinary concerns to the ECD Coordinator.
Administrative Support Worker PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: By utilizing the Wet’suwet’en holistic wellness conceptual framework, the ECD Administrative Support Worker is responsible for:
- Reporting to work as scheduled and answering site telephone for the purpose of responding to inquires, and/or taking messages;
- Greeting visitors (i.e.: public, parents, preschool students) for the purpose of responding to their inquiries and/or directing them to appropriate personnel;
- Maintaining inventory of forms, activity calendar, newsletters for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or schedule of activities;
- Performing specific clerical functions(i.e.: scheduling, photocopying, preparing materials for Parent-Teacher interviews, etc.)
- Maintaining a welcoming, safe and clean reception area;
- Contributing to team effort by performing related duties as assigned;
- Being responsible for file maintenance;
- Filling orders of office supplies as approved by Coordinator;
- Tracking and monitoring program expenses in accordance to annual budget;
- Acquiring supplies for preschool, infant/toddler, parent groups, etc.
Qualifications:
· Wet’suwet’en Cultural Education: Demonstration of cultural knowledge of the governance system, language, cultural protocols for caring for children/youth, and food harvesting experience. The successful applicant must be an active participant in the Feast Hall and demonstrate a commitment to life-long cultural learning.
· Western Education: Demonstration of knowledge and skills through completion of bookkeeping and office procedures combined with related financial and administrative experiences. Equivalencies will be considered. Knowledge of organizational processes such as MCFD, Northern Health and Ministry of Education are assets.
· Professional Qualities: The successful candidate will present a clear and up-to-date criminal record and drivers abstract and complete the required MCFD privacy training within a month of hiring. The successful candidate enjoys working in a team environment and is able to set healthy boundaries, take calculated risks, engage in reflective practice, take personal responsibility for wellness, and promote/support the wellness of the ANABIP team.
· Personal Qualities: Empathic, resourceful, flexible, team player, accountable, creative, innovative, and a positive role model in community regarding Wet’suwet’en wellness.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- An understanding of Wet’suwet’en Culture and systems
- Valid BC Drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Fluency in Wet’suwet’en (is an asset).
