Job description
We are an independently-owned coffee shop and bakery in East Van (1508 Nanaimo St) looking for an experienced barista to join our team approximately five days a week. The ideal candidate must be open to working weekends. Start times range from 6:30am to 9:30am. Despite being a bakery, we take pride in our coffee program. We carefully choose beans from passionate local roasters and rotate them every four months.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for an experienced barista with a strong sense of urgency to jump onto our bar asap. Our goal is to provide warm, friendly and quick hospitality to our customers...and we want to wow them with our coffee. At times we have a line-up out the door, so being comfortable in a very fast-paced environment is extremely important. Your duties would include:
- making all espresso drinks for customers (including matcha) - this requires a strong familiarity with all standard espresso beverages (flat white, cortado, cappuccino, london fog etc)
- latte art for all applicable drinks
- ability to maintain high coffee standards (we weigh the dry ground espresso mass to keep things consistent)
- comfortable with plant-based milks (we don't use cow milk)
- comfortable with new feature drinks (launching monthly)
- working the POS (we use Square)
- strong familiarity with our baked goods (we offer about 15 different types per day)
- keeping the cafe tidy / emptying the dirty dish bin / dishes / putting clean dishes away
- restock the milk fridge / syrups / cold drinks etc
- building pastry boxes / stamping cups and bags (you are supported by assistants)
- restocking creamer station and doing bathroom checks regularly
We are looking for something with:
- Strong barista skills - a high comfort level making specialty coffee drinks with latte art
- A strong sense of urgency - when it's busy, we work a little extra quickly!
- Positive attitude - you approach work in an optimistic way with a friendly attitude towards co-workers and customers.
- Reliable and punctual - you show up for shifts on time, ready to work. If you are unable to work, you let us know well in advance or get your shift covered. You complete tasks in a timely manner.
- You take pride in your work - you like to see a job well done and ensure things are done according to our standards, even if no one is checking. You are constantly trying to improve your baking skills.
- You are comfortable taking direction - you can follow instructions and have a desire to learn and grow.

What You Can Expect
- Above-average hourly wage
- Tips (~$3-$5/hr on weekdays, $5-$8 on weekends)

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour
