Position Overview
Reporting to the Head Chef and Sous Chef, the Cook plays a key role in the daily operation of the kitchen and dining program. The successful candidate will prepare high-quality meals from scratch while supporting an exceptional dining experience for residents. This role contributes to a culture of hospitality and excellence, consistently striving to exceed resident expectations.

Compensation
$20.71 to $23.37 per hour
Major Responsibilities
- Prepare high-quality meals from scratch that consistently exceed resident expectations.
- Promote excellence in customer service throughout all aspects of the resident dining experience.
- Create enjoyable, memorable, and engaging mealtime experiences.
- Strive to surprise and delight residents by preparing favourite meals and menu items.
- Accommodate residents with dietary restrictions, allergies, and other health-related needs.
- Prepare food with careful attention to quality, presentation, and consistency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and healthy kitchen environment.
- Ensure all food is received, stored, handled, and prepared according to applicable food safety standards and regulations.
- Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations.
- Work collaboratively with culinary and dining room staff to ensure a seamless dining experience.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions for menu development and service enhancements.
- Maintain a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in food quality and service.
Qualifications
- Genuine enjoyment of and heart for serving seniors.
- Demonstrated alignment with Martindale Place’s values of Servant Heart, Respect, Christian Love, and Excellence.
- Degree or diploma from a recognized culinary program preferred.
- Minimum two years of culinary experience in hospitality, healthcare, retirement living, or a related food service environment preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Current Food Handler Certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Current, original, and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen (completed within the past six months).
