Registered Practical Nurses are responsible for practicing within their scope to provide safe, competent, ethical, evidenced based patient care using professional knowledge and critical thinking while meeting practice standards of the College of Nurses and the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assesses the health status of patients scheduled to be seen in the Pediatric Clinic as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice.
2. Works collaboratively with the pediatricians to formulate a plan of care that meets patient centered goals and objectives.
3. Advocates for patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
4. Utilizes time management skills to organize plan and provide care to patients.
5. Works collaboratively with the Director and the healthcare team to solve problems, plan, implement and evaluate unit specific improvement strategies.
6. Performs basic clerical skills, faxing, patient call backs, managing voicemails.
Qualifications:
- Current Certificate of Competence as an R.P.N.
- Current BLS Certificate.
- IV initiation and maintenance skills required.
- 3 years Emergency, or Ambulatory Care experience required
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in active acute pediatric/neonatal setting (ex. ER, Pediatric Inpatient Unit, MCWH)
- Post Diploma education in Pediatric and Neonatal physical assessment, and Breastfeeding support
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention course required
- Computer literacy with CERNER order entry and documentation
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using both oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other healthcare team members
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking skills and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organizational skills/ability to work in fast paced environment required
- Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check.

Salary Range: $38.50/hr - $40.05/hr
