McLeod Lake Indian Band is seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) to foster the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of young children in a safe and nurturing environment. Working under the direction of the Education Director, the ECEA will collaborate with staff to provide high-quality, inclusive childcare and family support services. This full-time position is based on-reserve in McLeod Lake and requires 35 hours per week, with commuter services currently provided to/from both Mackenzie and Prince George.
Key Responsibilities:
· Follow the Child and Family Development and Schedule Childcare Licensing Regulations.
· Support Early Childhood Educators in planning and delivering age-appropriate, play-based learning activities.
· Provide a caring, respectful, and culturally safe environment where children feel valued and connected.
· Support opportunities for children to learn about their culture, traditions, language, and community teachings.
· Encourage children’s curiosity, creativity, confidence, and independence through meaningful interactions and activities.
· Assist with daily routines including meals, snacks, toileting, diapering, rest periods, and transitions.
· Ensure children’s safety, well-being, and supervision at all times.
· Build positive, trusting relationships with children, families, caregivers, and community members.
· Support the inclusion of Indigenous stories, songs, teachings, land-based learning, and cultural activities within the program.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
· Observe and communicate children’s interests, strengths, and developmental progress with the childcare team.
· Follow all childcare licensing requirements, health and safety standards, confidentiality practices, and organizational policies.
· Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, cultural learning activities, and professional development as directed.
Education and Experience
· ECE Assistant, and/or Infant Toddler License to Practice.
· Class 5 drivers license preferred.
· 1+ years of experience working with children in a childcare or recreation setting.
· Experience working in a First Nations community or organization is an asset.
· Valid First Aid/CPR Certification.

Preference may be given to the following: Indigenous people with relevant experience; those with previous experience or a combination of skills and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
