The Business Automation Engineer plays a key role in LandSolutions' digital transformation by designing, developing, and supporting workflow automation, AI-powered solutions, and business applications that improve operational efficiency, enhance data quality, and enable better decision-making across the organization. Working closely with business stakeholders and IT, this role combines business analysis, solution design, low-code development, AI technologies, data integration, and continuous improvement to streamline business processes.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy AI agents and AI-powered workflow automation solutions that reduce repetitive work, improve data quality, and increase operational efficiency across business units.
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance Power Platform solutions, including Power Apps (Canvas and Model-Driven where appropriate), Power Automate, Dataverse, and supporting Microsoft technologies.
- Support data integration, migration (ETL/ELT), transformation, governance, and data quality initiatives across business applications.
- Collaborate with business units to understand business processes, identify automation opportunities, document current and future-state workflows, prioritize initiatives, and support the implementation of practical automation solutions.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support the ongoing performance, reliability, and maintenance of workflow automation solutions and business applications.
- Document workflows, configurations, and system changes to support knowledge sharing with IT and business stakeholders. Deliver stakeholder engagement through training, demos, technical support, and adoption guidance for new applications and automation solutions.
- Support business process design and management by applying technology, AI, and automation tools to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and create measurable operational efficiencies.
- Develop and enhance dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that provide meaningful insights and support data-driven decision making.
- Develop and maintain integration between business applications using APIs, connectors, and automation platforms where appropriate.
- Evaluate emerging AI, automation, and Microsoft platform capabilities and recommend practical opportunities for adoption that deliver measurable business value.
- Measure and report on automation initiatives by tracking adoption, operational efficiency, time savings, user satisfaction, and business outcomes.
- Provide recommendations to the VP Technology Solutions on application improvements and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with IT, Project Managers, vendors and business units to ensure application development aligns with security and compliance standards.
- Ensure workflow automation solutions follow organizational standards for security, governance, documentation, scalability, and maintainability.
- University degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years’ of experience designing, developing, and implementing workflow automation solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Zapier, n8n, or similar technologies.
- Experience performing business systems analysis, business analysis, and application support.
- Hands-on experience using Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, or comparable AI assistant and agent-building tools to support process improvement, workflow automation, or business application development.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Dataverse.
- 2+ years’ experience with MS SQL Server, SSRS/SSIS, and T-SQL.
- Familiarity with Python and JavaScript for automation, scripting, or integration.
- Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC) and software implementation practices.
- Strong understanding of application integrations, data modeling, and database normalization.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft technology stack, including Power Platform, Dataverse, and SQL Server.
- Proficiency in ETL/ELT processes and data quality standards.
- Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, authentication methods, and application integrations.
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 administration, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Azure Active Directory/Entra ID concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office, Copilot, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Experience with relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and reporting solutions.
- Participate in establishing and maintaining Power Platform governance, development standards, solution lifecycle management, and release processes.
- Knowledge of GIS and land access/right-of-way systems is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and sound judgment when evaluating and applying AI, automation, and emerging technologies to solve business problems while maintaining appropriate governance, security, and usability.
