Litigation Lawyer – Civil, Commercial & Insurance Matters

Job Summary
we are seeking a dynamic, detail‑oriented Litigation Lawyer to join our growing practice. The successful candidate will assist in managing and advancing complex civil litigation, commercial disputes, and insurance-related claims. Strong knowledge of Ontario court processes, Rules of Civil Procedure, and legal documentation standards will be considered a significant asset.
This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse files, contribute to strategic litigation planning, and collaborate closely with clients and internal team members in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research using platforms such as LexisNexis or Westlaw to support case strategy and preparation.
- Draft, review, and revise pleadings, motions, affidavits, factums, correspondence, and other legal documents with clarity and precision.
- Manage all stages of litigation, including initial filing, discoveries, motions, mediations, pre‑trial conferences, and trial preparation.
- Develop and implement negotiation strategies aimed at achieving favourable or efficient resolutions.
- Collaborate with clients, witnesses, experts, and external counsel to gather evidence and build strong, persuasive cases.
- Analyze statutes, case law, regulations, and legal precedents to inform legal strategy and provide accurate guidance.
- Represent the firm and clients in court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement discussions with professionalism and confidence.
- Maintain organized, up‑to‑date case files and ensure all deadlines are met in accordance with court rules and procedural requirements.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school.
- Active licence to practise law in Ontario (LSO).
- Proven experience in civil litigation, commercial disputes, or insurance claims.
- Strong understanding of Ontario court processes, filing requirements, and litigation procedures.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to balance assertiveness and diplomacy.
- Exceptional legal writing skills with the ability to draft clear, persuasive documents.
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Experience in insurance defence or plaintiff-side insurance claims will be considered an asset.
Pay: $64,244.70-$80,000.00 per year
