ROLE AND OBJECTIVES:
The Carpenter / Mass Timber Installer is responsible for the assembly, installation, and finishing of mass timber, panelized, and modular building components within Kalesnikoff's manufacturing and construction operations. Working under the direction of the Fabrication Supervisor, or Panel Line Supervisor, this role supports all phases of construction and installation, from structural mass timber erection to finishing activities.
The Carpenter / Mass Timber Installer works with engineered wood products such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), glulam, light-frame systems, and modular building assemblies. Through strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity, this role contributes to the successful delivery of high-quality projects while supporting efficient manufacturing and construction operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mass Timber Installation & Structural Carpentry
- Interpret and work from shop drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Install and assemble mass timber components including CLT panels, glulam beams and columns, timber decks, wall systems, and associated structural assemblies.
- Assist with rigging, lifting, positioning, and securing mass timber components using cranes, forklifts, and approved lifting equipment.
- Install structural connectors, hardware systems, timber fasteners, bolts, brackets, and anchorage systems in accordance with project specifications.
- Verify alignment, plumb, level, elevation, and fit-up of structural components using measuring and layout tools.
- Support erection activities including temporary bracing, panel alignment, structural stabilization, and sequencing of installations.
- Install building envelope components, membranes, insulation, and weather protection systems as required.
- Perform framing, assembly, and installation of light-frame, panelized, and modular building components.
- Operate hand and power tools including drills, saws, impact tools, routers, and specialty timber installation equipment.
- Identify and report installation, fit-up, or quality issues and assist in resolving deficiencies.
Modular & Panelized Carpentry
- Perform interior and exterior carpentry work within modular and panelized building systems.
- Install wall panels, ceiling systems, and built-in components as required.
- Perform exterior finishing work including siding installation and related assemblies.
- Complete repairs, adjustments, punch-list items, and rework as required to achieve quality standards.
- Ensure all installations meet design specifications, quality requirements, and project schedules.
Safety, Quality & Documentation
- Follow all Kalesnikoff health, safety, environmental, and site-specific procedures.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and pre-task planning activities.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas at all times.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe lifting, rigging, and equipment operating procedures.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards, drawings, and specifications.
- Support quality control processes by identifying deficiencies and assisting with corrective actions.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship with a focus on structural integrity, precision, and finish quality.
- Complete required documentation, production records, installation reports, and inspection checklists as assigned.
- Report safety concerns, quality issues, damaged materials, or equipment concerns promptly.
Collaboration & Production Support
- Work collaboratively with project teams, site supervisors, production personnel, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Coordinate installation activities to support project schedules and minimize rework.
- Handle, move, stage, and store materials and components safely and efficiently.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and preparation of materials and equipment.
- Set up and dismantle scaffolding, work platforms, fall protection systems, and temporary supports as required.
- Support production and project targets while maintaining quality and safety expectations.
- Adapt to changing priorities and work assignments in both manufacturing and construction environments.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity, and installation practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Red Seal Carpenter endorsement is considered an asset.
- Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, Telehandler, Crane Signaler/Rigger, or related safety certifications are considered assets.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working as a Carpenter, Structural Carpenter, or Mass Timber Installer.
- Experience in mass timber, commercial, industrial, institutional, modular, or panelized construction preferred.
- Experience working with engineered wood products such as CLT, glulam, DLT, or NLT is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with structural steel connections, rigging, lifting operations, and large component installation is considered an asset.
- Experience using construction drawings, shop drawings, and installation plans.
- Experience working on active construction sites and in manufacturing environments is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, construction methods, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and shop drawings.
- Understanding of mass timber installation methods, connection systems, and building envelope assemblies.
- Ability to safely perform rigging, lifting, and material handling activities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, hazard controls, and safe work practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
- Effective time management and ability to meet project and production schedules.
- Physically capable of performing demanding work including lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working at heights.
- Reliable attendance, adaptability, and commitment to continuous improvement.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
- Salary: $36.70 - $42.50 (dependent on experience)
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
