We are seeking an experienced and dependable Railway Leadhand to oversee and coordinate field crews performing railway construction, maintenance, and related track work. The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership, ensure work is completed safely and efficiently, and help coordinate equipment, materials, and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise railway construction and maintenance crews in the field.
- Coordinate daily work activities and ensure crews understand project requirements.
- Perform hands-on railway construction, maintenance, and track-related work.
- Read and interpret drawings, work plans, and project specifications.
- Operate and assist with railway equipment and construction machinery as required.
- Coordinate the safe movement and use of equipment, tools, and materials.
- Monitor work quality and ensure projects are completed according to specifications.
- Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company, client, and railway safety requirements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, clients, and crew members.
- Identify and address field issues and report progress or concerns to management.
- Train and mentor less-experienced employees.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site.
- Complete required paperwork, time sheets, and daily reports.
Qualifications
- Previous railway construction or maintenance experience.
- Strong knowledge of railway track construction and maintenance practices.
- Ability to read drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Experience operating construction equipment is an asset.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime when required.

Experience: Railway: 2+ years preferred
Licence: Class 5 driver's licence preferred
Pay: $29.00-$32.00 per hour
