Practice Manager
Liberty Law Corporation - Lower Mainland & Metro Vancouver
Full-Time | $125,000 – $135,000 annually
About the Role
We're looking for a Practice Manager to take the reins on how the firm operates day to day from it’s two locations in Surrey and Abbotsford, British Columbia, with a clear mandate to raise efficiency, strengthen client service, and improve profitability.
This is a hands-on leadership position, not a back-office support role.
You'll be trusted to refine systems, guide staff and workflow across practice areas, and keep leadership informed on the metrics that reflect how the firm is really performing.
Key Responsibilities
- Own firm-wide operations. Plan, direct, and evaluate daily operations across the firm, working closely with associate lawyers in different practice areas ( family law, civil and administrative law litigation, etc) to keep running smoothly.
- Build the systems that scale. Develop and continuously improve office policies, procedures, and operational standards across the firm.
- Lead the team. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate administrative staff, legal assistants, and support personnel.
- Control the budget. Manage office budgets, approve expenditures, and oversee procurement — with an eye on cost and profitability.
- Drive client satisfaction. Monitor service standards and implement strategies that improve the client experience and firm reputation.
- Keep matters on track. Coordinate workflow across lawyers, legal assistants, and staff to ensure deadlines are met and files move efficiently from intake to resolution — flagging any missed or at-risk deadlines before they become a problem.
- Track and improve performance metrics, including:
– Average hours spent per matter, by practice area
– Matter cycle time (intake to resolution)
– Billing realization and collections
– Staff and file utilization
– Client satisfaction
- Shape the firm's strategy. Bring data-driven recommendations to leadership on productivity, staffing, and service delivery.
- Manage vendors and technology. Negotiate and manage contracts with external vendors, service providers, and technology suppliers.
- Keep the firm compliant. Support adherence to the regulatory, professional, and ethical standards governing legal practice operations.
- Solve problems fast. Resolve operational and administrative issues, providing hands-on guidance and support to staff.
- Report to leadership. Prepare operational reports on deadlines, efficiency, and profitability, with clear recommendations for improvement.
- Represent the firm. Attend meetings with business partners, vendors, and professional organizations as needed.
The Ideal Candidate
- You take ownership of results and hold yourself accountable for outcomes, not just effort
- You have a talent for streamlining processes and building systems that hold up as a firm grows
- You're comfortable digging into budgets and performance data to guide decisions
- You can lead and coordinate people across several different specialties or departments
- You catch small issues before they become big ones, and you act on them
- You handle sensitive client and firm information with sound judgment and discretion
- You must be willing to travel between Surrey and Abbotsford.
The Opportunity
- Your work will directly shape how the firm operates and grows, not sit in the background
- You'll be given real decision-making authority and room to run with your ideas
- You'll join as a genuine leader on the team, not in a purely administrative capacity
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Law required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior management role within the legal industry or a similar professional services environment
- Proven track record managing budgets, staff, and vendor relationships
- Proficiency with practice management, billing/time-tracking, and document management software
