The Cook is responsible for preparing and presenting quality food for guests of a busy business class lounge located at Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1. The Cook ensures that food is prepared safely, efficiently, and consistently while maintaining the high service standards.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the culinary and front of house teams to support daily food production, buffet replenishment and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare, cook, portion, and present a variety of hot and cold food items according to established recipes and production standards.
· Assist with breakfast, lunch and dinner food service requirements.
· Maintain consistent food quality, taste and presentation.
· Follow standardized recipes, production sheets and menu specifications.
· Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, dating and temperature control.
· Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and workplace health and safety procedures.
· Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
· Properly operate and safely maintain kitchen equipment and report equipment issues to the manager/supervisor on duty.
· Minimize food waste while maintaining required production levels and quality standards.
· Work effectively with other cooks, FOH staff and managers/supervisors.
· Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
· Previous experience as a Cook in a restaurant, hotel, catering or similar high-volume environment is preferred.
· Culinary training or a relevant food service qualification is an asset.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation and basic cooking techniques.
· Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
· Ability to follow recipes and production instructions.
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
· Strong teamwork and communication skills.
· Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical requirements of a kitchen position.
· Flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
· Previous airport or lounge culinary experience is an asset.
