Job Title: Project Planner / Scheduler
Location: Calgary, AB
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Project Planner / Scheduler to support major capital projects by developing, integrating, and maintaining detailed project schedules across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. This 12-month contract opportunity offers the potential for extension and the chance to contribute to complex industrial projects while driving planning and scheduling excellence.
What's the Job?
- Develop, maintain, and update Level I–IV integrated project schedules across all phases of project execution.
- Collaborate with Project Management and Discipline Leads to ensure schedules align with project objectives and execution strategies.
- Integrate schedules from engineering and procurement contractors, module yards, construction management teams, and commissioning groups.
- Support quantity tracking, resource loading, manpower forecasting, and schedule performance analysis.
- Review schedule logic, evaluate dependencies, and identify gaps that may impact project execution.
- Manage schedule changes through established project controls and change management processes.
- Develop and maintain Schedule Basis Memorandums outlining key assumptions, methodologies, and constraints.
- Conduct critical path analysis, variance analysis, and schedule health assessments.
- Perform “what-if” scenario modeling to evaluate recovery plans and contingency strategies.
- Monitor project progress and implement measurement tools to assess schedule performance.
- Consolidate progress and performance data from multiple stakeholders for project-wide reporting.
- Prepare bi-weekly schedule updates, KPI reports, float analysis reports, resource histograms, and progress curves.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, reporting standards, and processes.
- Monitor contractor performance against project plans and recommend corrective actions when required.
- Support front-end planning activities using limited early-phase project information and historical benchmarks.
What's Needed?
- Minimum 10 years of scheduling experience supporting major capital projects.
- Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6 and extensive hands-on scheduling experience.
- Strong understanding of EPC project lifecycles, work breakdown structures (WBS), and cost breakdown structures (CBS).
- Experience integrating schedules across multiple contractors, disciplines, and execution scopes.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing, field execution practices, and progress measurement methodologies.
- Experience with schedule risk analysis tools such as Primavera Risk Analysis, Safran, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong understanding of project controls, change management, forecasting, and schedule reporting.
- Ability to perform critical path analysis, resource forecasting, and schedule risk assessments.
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and commitment to data accuracy.
- Experience within oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, or other large industrial project environments is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project setting.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites as required.
