The Opportunity
We are looking for an Intermediate Controls Engineer & Project Manager to join our growing team. This hybrid role blends hands-on controls design work with end-to-end project management responsibilities. You will own projects from requirements gathering through to commissioning, serving as both a technical contributor and a client-facing project lead.
Key Responsibilities
Controls Engineering

- Design and develop PLC programs, HMI interfaces, and electrical control systems for industrial automation equipment.
- Apply controls engineering fundamentals and integrate pneumatic and electrical systems into automated assemblies.
- Lead and participate in internal and client-facing design reviews.
- Support panel build oversight, installation, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation including electrical schematics, I/O lists, PLC/HMI code, operating manuals, and commissioning protocols.
Project Management
- Lead projects from initiation through closeout, managing scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder communication.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and project management professionals.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues, and changes proactively.
- Produce clear project status updates, reports, and milestone tracking deliverables.
- Interface with freelance designers and external vendors as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in automation, packaging, or industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
- Proficiency with PLC programming platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley/RSLogix, Siemens TIA Portal, or similar) and HMI development software.
- Strong understanding of controls engineering fundamentals, electrical systems, and pneumatic systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable working directly with clients.
- Exceptional attention to detail in both design work and documentation.
Assets / Bonus:
- PMP designation or P.Eng license (or actively working toward either).
- Experience with mechanical design or CAD systems.
- Experience with Festo Automation Suite (FAS).
- Proficiency with SCADA systems, industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profinet), or robotics integration.
- Comfort wearing multiple hats in a small-team environment — we value multidisciplinary contributors.
