About Salesforce
Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, where humans with agents drive customer success together. Here, ambition meets action. Tech meets trust. And innovation isn’t a buzzword — it’s a way of life. The world of work as we know it is changing and we're looking for Trailblazers who are passionate about bettering business and the world through AI, driving innovation, and keeping Salesforce's core values at the heart of it all.
Ready to level-up your career at the company leading workforce transformation in the agentic era? You’re in the right place! Agentforce is the future of AI, and you are the future of Salesforce.
The Global Incentive Compensation (GIC) team at Salesforce is a global leader for sales compensation in the technology industry. We manage the sales compensation for all Salesforce, end-to-end - from designing the sales compensation plan to enable the company’s go-to-market strategy to administering the payment so that our sales teams get paid on time.
Within GIC, the
Data Strategy team owns the foundational data architecture, data modeling, and secure data-sharing pipelines that power our global operational ecosystem (supporting $3B+ in annual commissions). We are hiring a
Senior Technical Data Analyst to act as a key hands-on developer and business translator.
This is a highly visible, active role. We are looking for an analyst who goes beyond simply executing transactional queries to designing and transforming data in our Snowflake Gold and Reporting database layers. You will serve as the ultimate operational bridge: partnering deeply with upstream business teams (Decision Analytics and Reporting) to run technical discovery, clarify business requirements, and then rolling up your sleeves to write production-grade SQL code to deliver clean, curated, and highly aggregated datasets to support complex reporting and high-priority, time sensitive ad-hoc business needs.
Crucially, you are a natural "data detective." When the business requires data from unfamiliar or undocumented upstream systems, you will proactively hunt down the external business owners, ask the right investigative questions to decode their data structures, and document the requirements. You will build temporary technical workarounds in our Snowflake environment to keep the business agile, while carefully documenting the underlying technical gaps so they can be prioritized for permanent, long-term BT automation.
- Gold & Reporting Layer Development: Actively develop, model, and optimize highly aggregated datasets, schemas, and tables in GIC's Snowflake Gold and Reporting layers. Transform cleaned, raw data sources into production-ready semantic models designed specifically to fuel BI tools and handle complex, high-priority ad-hoc business requests.
- Requirements Translation & Technical Discovery: Partner with business analysts in Reporting and Decision Analytics to run upfront discovery on new requests. Dissect vague requests, clarify and document clear business logic, and verify data feasibility in Snowflake before starting SQL development.
- Proactive Data Stewardship & Sourcing: Untangle unfamiliar, complex, or undocumented upstream data sources across the enterprise. Proactively hunt down the external business owners, ask the right investigative questions to decode their data structures, and establish GIC's technical stewardship over these newly discovered sources.
- Agile Data Curation & Gap Mitigation: Write intermediate SQL views and temporary workarounds in Snowflake to unblock urgent business decisions when upstream BT pipelines fall short. Ensure these agile data solutions are documented, clean, and easily maintainable.
- Technical Gap Documentation: Identify, translate, and document persistent upstream system and data gaps. Write clear technical specifications and schema requirements to hand off to GIC’s centralized leadership, who will strategically prioritize them on the Business Technology (BT) engineering roadmap.
- Project & Intake Coordination: Manage the intake, tracking, and prioritization of incoming data requests. Act as the primary coordinator for the team's delivery queue, setting clear expectations with stakeholders regarding timelines, scope, and technical constraints.
- Data Documentation & Governance: Build and maintain comprehensive GIC data dictionaries, technical wikis (Confluence/Canvas), and SQL query templates to help downstream partners self-serve safely and reduce redundant requests.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Systems, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Technical Data Analyst, Database Developer, or Technical Business Analyst, with a proven track record of transforming data and translating business needs into technical database solutions.
- Advanced SQL & Cloud Data Warehousing: Expert-level, hands-on SQL skills. Deep practical experience building database views, designing table schemas, and writing performant joins, CTEs, and window functions in Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouses).
- Requirement Gathering & "Detective" Mindset: Mastery of running technical discovery, asking critical-thinking questions to uncover true business needs, and mapping business rules into technical specifications.
- Investigative Stewardship: Demonstrated ability to independently research unfamiliar data sources, collaborate with external business stewards, and rapidly synthesize how external databases connect to your team's models.
- Project & Stakeholder Management: Strong organizational skills with experience managing a project queue, setting realistic delivery expectations, and navigating competing priorities across multiple teams.
- Clear Communication: Exceptional ability to bridge the communication gap while explaining technical database schemas to business partners and business-level requirements to technical database engineers.
- Familiarity with Sales Operations, Finance, or Sales Compensation business domains.
- Knowledge of the Salesforce CRM platform and underlying data structures (Products, Opportunities, Accounts, etc.).
- Familiarity with DBT(data build tool) and Git/version control workflows.
- Experience operating in a highly audited, SOX-compliant data environment.
