Urgently Hiring – 5 Data Centre Field Technicians – Mississauga, ON – $40/hour
SoftFlow Canada is urgently hiring five (5) Data Centre Field Technicians for a full-time, approximately 4-month project in Mississauga, Ontario.
SoftFlow Canada is a family-owned Canadian IT company established in 1987, with 25+ technicians available 24/7 supporting enterprise IT, networking, cybersecurity, server infrastructure, structured cabling, data centre services, and technical field operations.
This assignment is focused specifically on data centre / telecom room infrastructure auditing, rack inventory validation, equipment identification, documentation, barcode labelling, and rack elevation updates.
We are looking for reliable technicians who are comfortable working around enterprise network equipment, telecom infrastructure, server racks, switches, routers, patch panels, structured cabling, and other rack-mounted devices.
Position Summary
The selected technicians will work on-site at a client location in the Wolfedale area of Mississauga and will assist with a detailed physical audit of network, telecom, and data centre infrastructure.
The project is expected to begin during the second week of September 2026 and continue for approximately four months.
All five technicians are expected to be required throughout the project duration.
Position Details

Primary Responsibilities
Technicians will be responsible for physically inspecting, identifying, documenting, and validating equipment installed in data centre racks and telecom environments.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Performing detailed physical rack walkdowns
- Conducting visual audits of server racks, network racks, telecom cabinets, and related infrastructure
- Identifying rack-mounted equipment, including:
- Network switches
- Routers
- Firewalls
- Servers
- Storage equipment
- Telecom equipment
- Patch panels
- Power distribution equipment
- Other rack-mounted devices
- Comparing physically installed equipment against:
- Rack elevation drawings
- Existing inventory records
- SpatialNet data
- Asset lists
- Client documentation
- Verifying manufacturer, model, serial number, asset tag, barcode, rack position, and equipment location where applicable
- Confirming rack-unit placement and device position
- Identifying equipment that is:
- Missing
- Additional
- Relocated
- Incorrectly documented
- Unlabelled
- Improperly represented in existing records
- Taking clear photographs of:
- Complete racks
- Individual devices
- Equipment labels
- Serial numbers
- Asset tags
- Cabling
- Patch panels
- Rack elevations
- Discrepancies
- Applying barcode labels to confirmed devices where required
- Ensuring barcode labels are applied accurately and consistently
- Recording observations and discrepancies in Excel or client-provided tracking tools
- Creating and updating rack elevation diagrams
- Updating device location and equipment information
- Maintaining detailed discrepancy trackers
- Following established naming conventions and documentation standards
- Escalating unclear, missing, or conflicting information to the project lead
- Maintaining accurate records throughout the project
- Following all client security, access, safety, and data centre procedures
- Maintaining a professional presence while working in controlled client environments
Required Technical Knowledge
Candidates should have a basic to intermediate understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure and be comfortable identifying common equipment found in data centre and telecom environments.
Candidates should understand or be familiar with:
- Network switches
- Routers
- Firewalls
- Servers
- Rack-mounted hardware
- Patch panels
- Structured cabling
- Copper and fibre patching
- Rack units and rack numbering
- Equipment labels and serial numbers
- Network closets
- Telecom rooms
- Data centre racks
- Asset inventory procedures
This is primarily an audit, documentation, and physical verification role. Advanced network configuration experience is not required, but candidates must be able to recognize and accurately document enterprise IT equipment.
Required Skills
- Previous experience in IT, networking, telecom, data centres, or field services
- Comfortable working inside data centres, server rooms, and telecom rooms
- Ability to identify common network and rack-mounted equipment

Physical Requirements
Candidates should be comfortable with the physical nature of data centre work, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Working around server and network racks
- Bending or crouching to inspect lower rack positions
- Reading labels located at different rack heights
- Working carefully around active production equipment and cabling
- Working in controlled-access technical environments
This role does not primarily involve heavy installation work, but technicians must be comfortable working around live enterprise infrastructure.
Project Expectations
This is a structured, detail-oriented project where accuracy is extremely important.
Technicians will be expected to:
- Arrive on time every day
- Maintain consistent attendance
- Follow the project methodology
- Document information accurately
- Avoid making unauthorized physical or configuration changes
- Respect data centre access and security procedures
- Escalate discrepancies rather than making assumptions
- Maintain confidentiality regarding client infrastructure
- Complete assigned rack audits according to project timelines
Compensation
$40.00 per hour
Expected schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Approximately 8 hours per day

Contract Duration
Approximately 4 months, beginning during the second week of September 2026.
Candidates must be available for the majority of the project and should ideally be able to commit to the entire assignment.
