About the Position
Selectra Contracting is an Ontario electrical contracting company specializing in electrical installation, maintenance and commissioning for water and wastewater treatment plants and related infrastructure.
We are looking for 309A Licensed Construction and Maintenance Electricians, registered 309A Electrical Apprentices, and motivated candidates interested in pursuing a career in the electrical trade to join our electrical team.
Depending on qualifications and experience, successful candidates will work independently or alongside experienced electricians on a variety of commercial, industrial, water-treatment and wastewater-treatment projects throughout Ontario.
For apprentices and candidates entering the electrical field, this position provides an opportunity to develop practical trade skills and gain hands-on experience in electrical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, controls and commissioning.
Electrical apprenticeship opportunities may be available to suitable candidates who are interested in entering the electrical trade but are not currently registered as apprentices. Availability will depend on company requirements, candidate suitability and applicable apprenticeship requirements.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary based on licence, apprenticeship level and experience and may include:
- Perform or assist with electrical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and commissioning.
- Install and terminate electrical equipment, conduit, cable tray, wire, cable and control wiring.
- Install and connect motors, pumps, instrumentation, control panels, disconnects and other electrical equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and wiring diagrams.
- Perform or assist with testing and troubleshooting electrical and control systems.
- Work under the supervision of a Journeyperson Electrician where required.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
- Follow company safety procedures, project-specific requirements and applicable legislation.
- Use electrical tools, testing equipment and other equipment safely and appropriately.
- Complete required documentation, time sheets and project records accurately.
- Work cooperatively with electricians, apprentices, project managers, supervisors, other trades, General Contractors and clients.
- Travel to project sites throughout Ontario as required.
- Perform other duties associated with electrical construction and maintenance as directed and permitted based on licence or apprenticeship status.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from candidates at different stages of their electrical careers, including:
Licensed Electricians
- Valid Ontario 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician Certificate of Qualification.
- Industrial, commercial, controls, instrumentation or water/wastewater experience is an asset.
Registered Electrical Apprentices
- Registered 309A Electrician – Construction and Maintenance Apprentice.
- Apprentices must maintain the registration and documentation required to legally work in the compulsory trade.
- All apprenticeship levels are encouraged to apply.
Candidates Interested in Entering the Electrical Trade
- Candidates who are not currently registered apprentices but are interested in pursuing a 309A electrical apprenticeship may also apply.
- Potential apprenticeship opportunities may be available to suitable candidates looking to begin a career in the electrical field.
- Previous construction, electrical, mechanical or skilled-trades experience is an asset but is not required.
- Candidates must be willing and able to meet applicable requirements for apprenticeship registration if offered an apprenticeship opportunity.
· Candidates will require at a minimum a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
General Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow electrical drawings, instructions and safety procedures appropriate to experience level.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence is an asset.
- Previous electrical construction, industrial, commercial, water/wastewater or related experience is an asset.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial construction environment.
- Ability to travel to project locations throughout Ontario as required.

Work Locations & Travel
Our projects are located throughout Ontario. The position includes opportunities for both local and out-of-town work.
Depending on project requirements, employees may be required to travel and work at project sites outside of the Stratford area. Per diem is available for qualifying out-of-town assignments in accordance with company policy.
Out-of-town projects may provide the opportunity to work on larger industrial, water treatment, wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects throughout Ontario.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position involves working on active construction and industrial sites and may require:
- Standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling and working in various positions.
- Handling electrical materials, tools and equipment.
- Working from ladders, lifts, scaffolding or other approved access equipment where required.
- Working indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Working around construction equipment, electrical equipment, machinery and other trades.
- Following site-specific personal protective equipment and safety requirements.
