The James Bay Community Centre (Non Profit Organization) is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Recreation Program Coordinator to lead the planning, development, and delivery of recreation, leisure, cultural, and community programs for residents of all ages.
Located in the heart of James Bay, we are a vibrant community hub serving children, youth, adults, and families through recreation, education, and community-building initiatives. We acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional, unceded territories of the Lekwungen Peoples, represented today by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation and growth of community recreation and leisure programs. This includes program development, instructor and volunteer coordination, special event planning, community engagement, marketing, and budget support.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing people together, creating meaningful community experiences, and working collaboratively with staff, contractors, volunteers, participants, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate recreation, leisure, cultural, and general interest programs
- Organize community events and support special initiatives throughout the year
- Recruit, coordinate, and support instructors, volunteers, and program staff
- Build positive relationships with participants, families, community partners, and stakeholders
- Create promotional materials, program guides, advertisements, newsletters, and digital communications
- Monitor program budgets and support responsible financial management
- Gather participant feedback and use evaluation results to enhance programming
- Support fundraising activities and other society-wide initiatives as needed
- We're looking for someone who brings:
- A diploma or degree in Recreation Management, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- · At least 2 years of experience in recreation programming or community-based program delivery
- Experience planning and coordinating programs and events for diverse age groups
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Experience working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools
- First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Assets include:
- Experience with Amilia registration software
- Event planning experience
- Class 4 Driver's Licence with a clean abstract

Pay: $26.00-$27.59 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
