Overview
We're looking for an experienced Senior Quality Specialist to be a hands-on driver of quality assurance and regulatory compliance activity at our Kelowna facility.
This is an individual-contributor role for someone who wants ownership without direct reports — a technical expert who can run investigations, own documentation systems, and be trusted with product release decisions with minimal oversight. You'll work closely with the Quality Assurance Manager and production teams to keep the site's Quality Management System running day to day, and you'll be a go-to resource other QA staff turn to for guidance.
This role reports to the Director of QA & Compliance and acts as their right hand across documentation, investigations, audits and floor support.
Duties
Support and maintain the Quality Management System
- Execute day-to-day QMS activities and help maintain ongoing compliance with the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations, Good Production Practices (GPP), Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), internal standards and customer requirements
- Keep the facility audit-ready at all times; lead regulatory inspections and customer audits
- Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready quality documentation
Provide quality oversight across production
· Mother plant program, tissue culture receiving, clone propagation, vegetative production, flower production, harvest, drying and curing, packaging, finished goods, inventory management, plant order fulfillment and product release
· Ensure every activity follows approved SOPs and quality standards
Own documentation and quality systems work
- Draft, review and revise SOPs
- Lead and document CAPA investigations, non-conformances, deviations and change control records
- Support recall procedures and mock recalls, risk assessments and internal audit reports
- Complete customer quality questionnaires, support supplier qualification, and maintain training records, batch records and product release documentation
- Support document control and version management across the facility
Protect data integrity
- Verify production records and review batch records
- Reconcile inventory, verify data, and review electronic records and audit trails
- Maintain lot traceability documentation and verify Certificates of Analysis
Support audits and regulatory affairs
- Assist with Health Canada inspections, CRA excise audits, GACP certification audits, customer audits, internal audits and supplier assessments
- Act as a secondary quality contact with Health Canada, third-party laboratories, certification bodies and customers, as directed by the QA Manager
- Support international shipment documentation, including export permits and phytosanitary requirements
Drive continuous improvement
- Root cause investigations, track CAPA effectiveness, support process improvements, KPI tracking and quality trend analysis
Support the floor, daily
- Conduct floor inspections, sanitation and environmental monitoring verification, harvest support, product release support, and outbound shipment documentation
- This role is expected to spend regular time on the production floor — not exclusively behind a desk
Supporting People
· Coach and mentor production staff on quality expectations, deliver quality training, build strong cross-departmental relationships, and support operational decision-making while holding the line on compliance
Skills
Required
- Post-secondary education in a science or technical discipline (Biology, Plant Science, Horticulture, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Biotechnology or related), or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant cannabis QA experience
- 3+ years of Quality Assurance experience in a regulated industry
- Experience within the Canadian cannabis industry
- Strong working knowledge of the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations, Health Canada requirements, GPP, GACP principles and Quality Management Systems
- Hands-on experience with CAPA, deviations and change control
- Experience supporting audits or regulatory inspections
- Strong knowledge of document control systems
- Exceptional organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a Health Canada security clearance; must pass a criminal record check
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Preferred
- Experience with GrowerIQ or a comparable cannabis ERP / seed-to-sale platform
- Experience supporting international cannabis exports (import/export permits, phytosanitary certification, EU GACP/GMP expectations)
- Experience in GACP and/or GMP environments
- Knowledge of cannabis cultivation and post-harvest operations
- Experience with laboratory testing, Certificates of Analysis and product release
- Experience supporting nursery propagation or commercial cultivation
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Excel (Advanced), Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint
- GrowerIQ, ERP or inventory management systems, electronic document management systems
- High proficiency and accuracy with data entry and data analysis
