The Opportunity
We are looking for a friendly, motivated, and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team.
Our Optometric Assistants play an important role in the patient journey. You'll work closely with our optometrists and clinical team to prepare patients for their examinations, perform diagnostic testing, gather accurate patient information, and help ensure appointments run smoothly and efficiently.

What You'll Do:
- Welcome patients and help create a comfortable and positive clinical experience
- Prepare patients for their appointments and eye examinations
- Review and accurately document relevant patient information and history
- Perform preliminary testing and diagnostic imaging as directed by our optometrists
- Explain testing procedures clearly and confidently to patients
- Prepare examination rooms and equipment
- Assist doctors with patient care and clinical procedures when required
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic medical record
- Support smooth patient handoffs between different areas of the clinic
Diagnostic Testing & Technology
Depending on your training and experience, you may learn to perform a variety of advanced diagnostic tests and imaging.
You'll receive training on the equipment and procedures required for your role.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable learning new technology and understands the importance of accuracy and attention to detail when performing clinical testing.
Patient Experience
- Provide friendly, professional, and compassionate service
- Help patients understand what to expect throughout their appointment
- Answer general questions and direct clinical questions to the appropriate team member
- Recognize opportunities to Go Beyond the Ordinary and create a great patient experience
- Assist patients who may be nervous, elderly, young, or require additional support
- Communicate effectively with doctors, front desk, optical, and specialty departments
Clinic & Team Support
- Help maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas
- Clean and disinfect equipment according to clinic protocols
- Assist with clinic flow during busy periods
- Communicate delays, concerns, or important patient information to the appropriate team member
- Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development
- Support other areas of the clinic when needed
- Contribute ideas that could improve patient care, efficiency, or the team experience
Who We're Looking For
You don't necessarily need years of optometry experience to be successful in this role.
We're looking for someone who is kind, dependable, curious, organized, and eager to learn.
You enjoy interacting with people and understand that small details can make a big difference in someone's healthcare experience.
You're comfortable working in a busy environment, can move between tasks while maintaining accuracy, and aren't afraid to ask questions when you're learning something new.
Most importantly, you genuinely enjoy helping people and working as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, healthcare, medical administration, or another patient-facing environment is an asset
- Previous optometric assistant or ophthalmic technician experience is considered a strong asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Friendly and professional approach to patient care
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to stay organized in a busy clinical environment
- Comfortable working with computers and learning new technology
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable
- Willingness to learn new clinical skills and diagnostic equipment
