About the Role
As a Business Analyst, you will support business and technology initiatives that improve how Kent & Essex Mutual Insurance operates and serves our policyholders and broker partners.
Working with business leaders, subject matter experts and technical teams, you will help identify business needs, document requirements, analyze processes and support the implementation of practical business and technology solutions.
You will develop a strong understanding of K&E's insurance operations, workflows and technology environment, including the Guidewire Nexus platform. As your knowledge and experience grow, you will take on increasing responsibility for business analysis activities and project deliverables.

What You'll Do
- Work with business leaders and subject matter experts to understand business needs, challenges and desired outcomes.
- Gather, analyze and document business and functional requirements.
- Participate in interviews, workshops and requirements-gathering sessions.
- Analyze existing business processes, systems and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Document current-state and future-state processes using process flows, use cases and other business-analysis techniques.
- Assist in translating business needs into clear requirements for technical teams and solution providers.
- Support system enhancements and process changes arising from evolving business needs, operational improvements and reporting requirements.
- Develop a strong understanding of K&E's insurance products, procedures, workflows and operating environment.
- Develop knowledge of the Guidewire Nexus platform and its capabilities and identify functionality that may help address business needs.
- Research business issues, review processes and data, and contribute to recommendations that support K&E's objectives.
- Participate in requirements, solution-design and problem-resolution discussions with business and technical leaders or subject-matter experts.
- Develop test scenarios and participate in system and user acceptance testing to confirm that solutions meet documented requirements.
- Identify issues during analysis, testing and implementation and work with project team members and business leaders toward resolution.
- Develop user documentation, training materials and other resources to support the implementation of new or changed processes and solutions.
- Assist with user training and implementation activities.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with business leaders and project team members regarding requirements, issues and project activities.
- Build effective working relationships across the organization.
- Support multiple initiatives and priorities in a changing environment.
What You Bring
- Education, training or experience in business analysis, business, information technology, insurance or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge in one or more areas of business analysis, such as requirements gathering, process analysis, process mapping, use cases, testing or solution implementation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding business processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate information clearly to both business and technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities and follow through on commitments.
- Sound judgment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of broader business objectives.
- Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions, learn new systems and develop an understanding of insurance operations.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in an evolving environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with SharePoint or similar collaboration tools.
Assets
The following would be considered assets but are not required:
- Experience gathering or documenting business requirements.
- Experience creating process maps, workflows or use cases.
- Experience with system testing or user acceptance testing.
- Experience supporting system implementations, enhancements or process-improvement initiatives.
- Experience working in property and casualty insurance.
- Knowledge of Ontario personal automobile or residential insurance.
- Experience with Guidewire or another insurance policy administration or core system.
Work Location
This position is based in Chatham, Ontario and may be performed through an in-office or hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office), subject to business requirements and K&E's workplace policies. When working remote, work location must be within the Province of Ontario.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this position is $51,000 to $70,000.
The actual salary will be determined based on factors including but not limited to, market conditions, relevant experience, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, qualifications, and education.
