Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Operates, maintains, and configures Niagara Region’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and Traffic Camera Monitoring System. Develops and implements traffic signal timings and coordinated signal network plans. Undertakes traffic operational analysis and recommends the installation and modification of traffic control devices to improve traffic safety for all road users and facilitate traffic flow. Maintains various electronic databases for the Traffic Systems and Operations team.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Successful completion of a 3-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma, in Civil Engineering Technology –Transportation or Transportation Engineering Technology.
- Must be eligible for certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
- Must be certified or eligible for certification (within 12 months) with the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) at Traffic Signals Level I and Level II, and IMSA (Ontario) Practical Guide to Signs & Markings.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in traffic engineering (Co-operative work experience may be considered).
- Working knowledge and understanding of traffic signal timing and intersection capacity analysis.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM).
- Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act & its Regulations (Ontario).
- Experience with ATMS Traffic Systems software is preferred (e.g. Centracs®).
- Knowledge of CCTV systems and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera controls is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS Arc View and database management are considered assets.
- Additional training in geometric design and human factors engineering is considered an asset.
SKILLS
- Proficiency with Synchro/Sim Traffic Software used in developing timing plans for traffic signal networks is required.
- Familiarity with Centracs® (ATMS) and Video Management software is considered an asset.
- Familiarity and working knowledge with Time Space Diagram software is considered an asset.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified licence for the class of the vehicle operated (Class G).
- Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.
