Academic Program Assistant Coordinator

The Academic Program Assistant Coordinator supports the development and delivery of BGC London’s M.A.P. Program (My Action Plan to Education), serving children in Grades 4–8 and youth in Grades 9–12.
Working alongside the Program Coordinator, you will help deliver personalized tutoring, homework support, study skills development, and engaging learning opportunities. You will play an important role in creating a welcoming, structured, and encouraging environment where children and youth can develop academically, socially, and personally.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Provide individualized and group academic support and tutoring to children and youth in Grades 4–12.
- Support the delivery of all aspects of the M.A.P. Program, including homework assistance, study skills, academic development, and life skills.
- Identify trends in student learning, study habits, and areas requiring additional support to help inform intentional program content.
- Apply knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and current approaches to teaching and learning.
- Stay current on innovative ideas and trends in education and help incorporate new approaches into program delivery.
- Create purposeful, engaging, and well-managed learning environments.
- Support children and youth experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges and help foster positive social skills.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with children and youth.
- Engage with parents, guardians, and community partners to build strong relationships and support student success.
- Assist with program recruitment, outreach, and promotion.
- Participate in training, meetings, and other program activities as required.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will have:
- A University Degree or College Diploma in Education, Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a related field.
- Experience providing academic support or tutoring to children and/or youth.
- Knowledge of the Ontario education curriculum and current approaches to teaching and learning.
- The ability to provide engaging one-on-one and group tutoring.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- The ability to effectively manage a learning environment and engage children and youth with different needs, abilities, and learning styles.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification – required.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- A valid full G Driver’s Licence – required; access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset. BGC London provides this training at no cost.
Position Details
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends
- The Senior M.A.P. Program (Grades 9–12) operates from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Candidates must be available to attend applicable evening training and meetings.
- Tentative Start Date: Mid-September 2026
