Highland Fisheries, a division of Clearwater Seafoods, requires a Production Supervisor to join our team in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating day-to-day production activities to support safe, efficient, and effective plant operations.
The Production Supervisor provides leadership to production employees, ensures production requirements are achieved, supports quality and food safety standards, coordinates workforce requirements, and works collaboratively with other departments to meet operational and customer needs.
Reporting Structure
- This position reports to the Production Manager.
- The Production Supervisor works closely with Lead Hands, Quality, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other operational departments.
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct daily production activities, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to established production, quality, food safety, and safety standards.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to production employees and Lead Hands.
- Verify daily production figures and ensure production information is accurate and reported in a timely manner.
- Coordinate workforce scheduling and allocation of employees to meet production requirements and changing operational demands.
- Work collaboratively with production leadership and other departments to identify and address operational issues.
- Monitor production performance and support efforts to maintain production costs within established budgetary requirements.
- Monitor and record packaging usage and support accurate inventory control.
- Promote and maintain a strong culture of workplace health and safety and ensure employees follow established safety procedures and requirements.
- Partner with the Quality department to maintain product quality, food safety requirements, and customer specifications.
- Participate in production meetings and contribute operational updates, recommendations, and solutions.
- Identify opportunities to minimize production downtime and changeover times and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Review and ensure accurate daily employee time and attendance information within the ADP payroll system.
- Support customer and production requirements, including printing and applying appropriate product and packaging labels when required.
- Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities relating to productivity, safety, quality, employee performance, and production processes.
- Communicate production priorities, expectations, and operational changes clearly to employees.
- Assist with employee training, coaching, performance management, and the consistent application of company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and management regarding attendance, performance, employee relations, and other workplace matters as required.
- Perform other related duties and support operational initiatives as assigned by management.

Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing, seafood processing, food production, or similar operational environment is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate employees in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience working with computerized production, payroll, or time-and-attendance systems is considered an asset.
- Experience with ADP or similar workforce management systems is considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety, food safety, and quality requirements in a production environment is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Location: Highland Fisheries plant facility, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
- Work Environment: Production plant environment that may be cold, wet, and noisy.
- Physical Demands: Extended periods of standing and walking throughout the production facility may be required.
- Schedule: Flexibility is required based on production and operational needs, which may include varying shifts, weekends, extended hours, and seasonal production requirements.

Pay: $42,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
