Field Mechanic- Heavy Duty / Heavy Equipment Technician - Civil Construction

Harbour Construction is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Technician to join our civil construction team as a Field Mechanic serving projects throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
This role is built for a mechanic who knows heavy equipment, can diagnose problems properly, and understands the importance of keeping projects moving.
This is a field-focused role supporting excavation, underground utilities, trucking, and heavy civil infrastructure operations across both provinces. The successful candidate will travel to active job sites throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and must be prepared to cover the full-service area as operational needs require.
We're looking for a mechanic who takes pride in their trade, works safely, communicates well with crews, and can be trusted to solve problems independently in the field.
At Harbour Construction, you'll work on excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and other heavy construction equipment used in earthmoving, utility installation, and infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
· Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy civil construction equipment and heavy equipment fleets
· Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on heavy construction equipment
· Troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems using computerized diagnostic tools and software
· Rebuilding or replacing major components including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and final drives
· Responding to field service calls and equipment breakdowns on active construction sites throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
· Completing service reports and maintenance documentation accurately
· Supporting operators and project teams to minimize downtime and keep projects moving safely and efficiently
· Working safely in field environments while following all company safety procedures and standards
What We’re Looking For
· Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification is preferred and considered an asset, but is not required
· Previous experience working as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Technician, Diesel Mechanic, or Field Service Mechanic
· Experience working on heavy equipment fleets in civil construction, roadbuilding, or heavy equipment repair environments
· Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
· Experience working with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics
· Ability to work independently in field conditions across a wide geographic service area
· Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record
· Willingness and ability to travel regularly to job sites throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and cover the entire service area

Work Environment
This is a field-based role working year-round on active civil construction sites throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The Field Mechanic will travel across the full-service area and may work in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment, noise, vibration, mud, dust, and active construction operations. Overtime, extended travel, and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project locations and operational needs.
Pay: From $45.00 per hour
