Landscape Construction Lead Hand

Full-Time | $32–$38/hour based on experience
LandCo Group is a family-owned and operated construction company specializing in municipal landscape and park construction throughout the GTA.
We are currently looking for an experienced Landscape Construction Lead Hand to join our team.
This is a hands-on construction position for someone who can work independently, operate equipment, understand grades and elevations, and help keep a crew productive on active construction sites.
This is not an entry-level position and is not landscape-maintenance work.

Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Landscape Construction Foreman on municipal landscape projects
- Assist with directing labourers and organizing daily construction tasks
- Operate skid steers and mini excavators
- Establish, check and maintain construction grades
- Use laser levels and work from elevations
- Complete excavation and site preparation
- Install and compact granular materials
- Perform rough and finish grading
- Assist with concrete forming and preparation
- Install interlock, unit pavers and retaining walls
- Install armour stone and landscape features
- Complete drainage and site-preparation work
- Install site furniture and park features
- Install trees, shrubs, topsoil and sod
- Read construction drawings and complete assigned work efficiently
- Work safely around existing utilities
- Perform hands-on construction labour as required
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Minimum 3 years of landscape construction, civil construction or related site-work experience
- Proven experience operating a skid steer
- Proven experience operating a mini excavator
- Ability to operate equipment independently on an active construction site
- Strong understanding of grades and elevations
- Ability to independently use a laser level
- Ability to establish, check and maintain construction grades
- Experience with excavation, granular placement and compaction
- Ability to read basic construction drawings and understand site layout
- Valid Ontario G driver's licence
- Clean driving record
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for assigned tasks
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Applicants who do not have hands-on equipment operating experience and experience working with construction grades will not be considered for this position.
Preferred Experience
Strong candidates will also have experience with:
- Municipal park construction
- Concrete forming and placement
- Interlock / unit paving
- Armour stone
- Retaining walls
- Drainage
- Site furniture installation
- Playground construction
- Finish grading
- Working around existing utilities
- Leading or directing small crews
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a strong, experienced construction person who can be relied upon as the lead hand on site.
The successful candidate should be capable of receiving a scope of work, understanding the required grades and elevations, organizing the work, operating the necessary equipment and completing the task with limited supervision.
You must be comfortable working alongside the crew and performing hands-on construction work when required.
This position is ideal for an experienced landscape construction worker, equipment operator or construction lead hand looking to take on more responsibility and continue progressing toward a foreman position.
Landscape maintenance, lawn cutting and garden-maintenance experience alone does not meet the requirements for this position.
