Print is the part of the product people actually see. This is the person who gets it right.
At Eco Guardian, we manufacture certified compostable foodservice packaging — the cups, containers, and stock that replace single-use plastic and still have to look sharp on a shelf. We're scaling up a brand-new production facility in Aurora, and we're commissioning a full-servo, gearless 8-colour flexographic press to run it.
We're looking for a Senior Print Pressman to own that press. If you've spent years dialling in colour, chasing register, and taking pride in a clean, consistent run, this is a chance to be the person who sets the standard on a brand-new line from day one.
Why this role matters here
The print is the most visible feature of everything we ship, so your work directly protects our brand quality, colour accuracy, and the confidence our customers have in every order. And because our packaging is certified compostable, you're also a guardian of that certification at the press — the inks and coatings you run are part of what makes the finished product pass compostability standards, so your judgment on what goes on the web genuinely counts.
During our current ramp-up, you'll be central to commissioning and dialling in the new press and helping set the run standards the whole team works to. In short: high visibility, real ownership, and a direct line between your craft and the company's reputation.
What you'll be doing
- Set up and make-ready: mount and register plates and sleeves, set impression, configure doctor blade chambers and ink stations, and dial in the auto-register system before the first pull.
- Own the colour: match to approved proofs and customer specs, and make live adjustments to hold consistency through the run.
- Protect quality and compliance: monitor register, impression, and defects using inspection tools and HMI data; document checks; and ensure only approved, compostability-compliant inks and consumables go on the press.
- Manage inks and consumables: mixing, viscosity and pH control on our water-based inks, anilox and doctor blade selection, and reorder planning.
- Handle the web: run rolls across a wide substrate range using the auto-splicer, closed-loop tension control, and automatic web guide — clean, damage-free, start to finish.
- Keep it running: operator-level maintenance and clean-as-you-go / 5S housekeeping, with clear escalation to Maintenance when something's beyond the press.
- Cross-train and support: die cutting and cup forming, plus other lines as needed — versatility that keeps the whole plant productive.
The press you'll run
A full-servo, gearless (shaftless) 8-colour flexographic press:
- Print repeat 380–800 mm; substrate range 25–400 gsm
- Max mechanical speed 260 m/min (853 fpm)
- Automatic register & colour control; automatic anilox wash
- Doctor blade chamber system; closed-loop tension; automatic splicer and rewind
- HMI touchscreen controls on every print unit
Fully digital, fully modern — if you enjoy getting the most out of good equipment, you'll enjoy this one.
What you bring
- 10+ years of hands-on flexographic press experience
- Demonstrated experience commissioning and setting up presses
- Strong working knowledge of inks and press accessories — anilox rolls, doctor blades, plates/sleeves, viscosity and pH control
- Comfort with HMI touchscreen controls (this press is fully digital)
- Accurate colour vision and matching ability, with real attention to detail
- Willingness to run die cutters and support other lines as required
- Reliable attendance, and availability for overtime and shift work based on production needs
Assets (not required): wide-web / central-impression servo flexo experience; sheetfed, heatset, or coldset background; food packaging or GMP/food-safety experience; die cutting or cup forming; forklift certification.
