Job Summary
The Office Editorial Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing editorial operations, managing editorial teams, and ensuring the quality, integrity, and efficiency of publishing workflows within the company. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication, writing, and proofreading skills, as well as the ability to manage a team of editors and writers. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, and passionate about maintaining high editorial standards that align with company.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the operations of editorial and publishing departments.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., production, marketing, IT, and indexing) to support publishing operations.
- Develop and implement editorial policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistency and quality in publishing output.
- Oversee the coordination of manuscript submission, peer review, revision, and publication processes.
- Manage editorial workflows and production schedules to ensure timely publication of scientific content.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate editorial staff, including editors, deputy managing editors, and related personnel.
- Establish and maintain quality control standards for scientific manuscripts and published materials.
- Liaise with authors, reviewers, academic editors, and international collaborators to support the peer review process.
- Monitor editorial performance metrics and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and output quality.
- Ensure compliance with publishing ethics, open access policies, and industry standards.
- Provide scientific and editorial expertise to support the open access publishing model and journal development strategies.
- Support cross-office collaboration with international editorial teams and global stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic initiatives to expand journal impact, quality, and scientific reach.
- Travel occasionally to attend internal meetings, editorial workshops, and international publishing conferences as required.
Qualification
· A university degree is required, preferably in a scientific discipline, publishing, communications, or a related field.
· Advanced academic qualifications. A Masters in a relevant scientific field are considered an asset.
· Five years of progressive experience in the scientific publishing industry is required.
· Experience working in an open access publishing environment is required.
· Prior experience in editorial management, peer review coordination, and successful journal management are required.
· Proven experience supervising editorial teams and managing complex publishing workflows is required.
· Strong understanding of academic publishing standards, peer review systems, and publication ethics is required.
· Experience working in an international, multi-office publishing organization is considered an asset.
