Position Overview:
The Heavy-Duty Mechanic keeps Henry Drilling's fleet running — drill rigs, cranes, service and water trucks, excavators, and support equipment used across our job sites in the Lower Mainland and throughout BC. This role diagnoses and repairs diesel and gas-powered equipment, including engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, power transmission, and brakes, using manuals, diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. The mechanic reads job orders, inspects and listens to equipment in operation to pinpoint issues, and plans and carries out repairs to keep crews working with minimal downtime. Millwrights and Industrial Mechanics with strong hydraulics, mechanical, and heavy equipment experience are welcome to apply — many of those skills transfer directly to this role.
Responsibilities
- Be a safety leader by adhering and by meeting all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
- Diagnose/troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform repairs on company equipment, including drill rigs, cranes, service and water trucks, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
- Test and drive/operate repaired equipment to verify performance and conformance to specifications.
- Responsible for cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment.
- Responsible for making sure equipment is up to date with all certifications (ie. All cranes, trucks and trailers are up to date with yearly inspections).
- Communicate shop supplies as needed.
- Ensure repairs are being performed with an active work order.
- Confer with the Equipment Manager regarding all repairs and the extent of repairs necessary.
- Communicate with Equipment Manager to order material/parts required to complete repairs.
- Ensure that repairs remain inside budget requirements.
- Responsible to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner.
- Perform work in either shop or outdoor construction site settings.
- Service and repair hydraulic systems, mud pumps, and other drill rig-specific components.
- Work with other shop or field personnel acting in a courteous manner.
- Assist with other duties as required from time to time.
Requirements:
- Proven hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel equipment (drill rigs, cranes, trucks, excavators, or similar). Red Seal Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification is an asset but not required — we also welcome applicants with a Millwright/Industrial Mechanic ticket or equivalent trade background, as many of those skills transfer directly to this role. What matters most is demonstrated field/shop experience and a strong track record of getting equipment back up and running.
- Sound mechanical knowledge, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of procedures for the repair and maintenance of a wide range of mobile and stationary equipment.
- Relevant experience, ideally with drilling equipment, heavy construction equipment, or similar diesel-powered machinery.
- Valid BC driver's licence (class 5). Class 3 with air brake endorsement is an asset.
Working Conditions:

Pay: $48.00-$54.00 per hour
