We are seeking motivated university students to join our team as Math, Science or Coding Tutors and Course Content Assistants.
Applicants may specialize in any one subject area listed below. You are not expected to have expertise in every subject. We welcome candidates with strong knowledge in one or more areas, including:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer science
- Coding or software development
- Engineering
- Other related STEM fields
In this role, you will support students specifically within your area or areas of expertise. For example, a biology student may work only on biology tutoring and content, while a computer science student may focus only on coding or computer science.
You will provide personalized tutoring sessions and assist with developing high-quality educational materials related to your academic background and skills.
This paid, part-time internship offers an opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience, strengthen communication and technical skills, develop educational content and make a meaningful contribution to students’ academic success.
This position is ideal for university students in STEM or technology-related programs who enjoy explaining concepts, solving problems and helping others learn.
Duties
Your responsibilities will be assigned based on your specific subject expertise and may include:
- Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions in your area or areas of expertise
- Support students in one or more subjects, such as mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, computer science, coding or engineering
- Teach coding and programming concepts when relevant to your background
- Support students with programming languages and technologies in which you are proficient, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, HTML or CSS
- Explain concepts clearly using examples, visual aids, demonstrations and problem-solving strategies
- Assist students with homework, assignments, coding projects, exam preparation and study skills
- Create and improve educational materials, lesson plans, coding exercises, practice questions and learning resources in your subject area
- Review educational content to ensure accuracy, clarity and alignment with student learning goals
- Use online teaching platforms, coding environments and educational technology
- Track student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Collaborate with the education team to improve courses and learning resources
Qualifications
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
- Must meet the eligibility requirements for the VFC internship program
- Strong academic background in at least one of the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer science
- Coding or software development
- Engineering
- Another related STEM or technology field
- Applicants are not required to be qualified in all listed subjects
- Strong understanding of your chosen subject area and the ability to explain its concepts clearly
- Coding applicants should be proficient in at least one programming language
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coding instruction or educational content creation experience is an asset
- Comfortable using online learning platforms and educational technology
- Passionate about education and helping students succeed
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
