Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands‑on Accounting Manager to lead the accounting and controllership function for a multi‑entity group operating primarily in the hospitality industry, with additional activities in construction and development.

This role requires a leader who is comfortable actively participating in day‑to‑day accounting work — completing reconciliations, journal entries, banking transactions, cashflow management, intercompany accounting, and month‑end close — while also developing and guiding the accounting team.

The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Executive Board and CFO, providing timely, accurate financial information, insights, and recommendations that support operational decision‑making and long‑term strategic planning.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and naturally curious. They identify issues early, ask thoughtful questions, and take ownership of delivering accurate, timely financial information. Proven experience in full‑cycle accounting, month‑end close, statutory reporting (GST, PST), and year‑end preparation is essential. This is an in‑office position.

Leadership & Team Development

Team leadership — Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team with clear roles, accountability, and structure.
Foster a culture of ownership, accuracy, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
Drive performance to achieve a consistent 10‑business‑day month‑end close.
Establish and enhance accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures.
Collaborate with hospitality operations, construction project teams, and other departments to ensure smooth financial workflows.
Provide clear, concise financial updates and insights to the Executive Board, supporting strategic and operational decision‑making.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

Month‑end close — Own and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, cut‑off adjustments, and reconciliations.
Deliver accurate, timely financial statements across multiple entities.
Maintain complete, organized working papers supporting all financial reporting.
Ensure all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled monthly.
Maintain audit‑ready financial records at all times.
Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
Lead the year‑end review process with external accountants and auditors.
Present financial results, risks, and opportunities to the Executive Board and CFO as required.

Cash Management, Banking & Financing

Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor daily/weekly cash positions.
Actively manage cash balances and liquidity requirements across hospitality and construction entities.
Manage intercompany loans and funding arrangements.
Oversee banking activities: transfers, wires, EFTs, account monitoring, and administration.
Prepare lender reporting packages, covenant calculations, and other bank reporting requirements.
Support ongoing banking and lender relationships.

Multi‑Entity Accounting & Internal Controls

Multi‑entity accounting — Manage accounting across multiple legal entities with consistent policies and procedures.
Oversee and reconcile all intercompany transactions and balances.
Ensure intercompany accounts are fully reconciled monthly.
Maintain strong internal controls and proactively resolve discrepancies.
Identify and address process issues before they impact operations.

Accounting Operations (Hands‑On Responsibilities)

The successful candidate must lead by example and be comfortable personally performing accounting tasks rather than relying solely on delegation.

Oversee and participate in daily accounting operations: AP, AR, payroll, and banking.
Perform and review bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Process and monitor vendor payments.
Enter and reconcile credit card transactions.
Manage petty cash balances and reconciliations.
Process pre‑authorized and recurring payments.
Prepare and issue invoices and update SOVs (construction‑related).
Ensure accurate coding and recording of all transactions.
Handle a high volume of transactions with exceptional attention to detail.

Compliance & Statutory Reporting

Prepare and file GST, PST, and WorkSafeBC returns.
Maintain statutory declarations, WCB clearance letters, and compliance documentation.
Ensure adherence to Canadian GAAP and applicable tax requirements.
Support annual tax filings and respond to external advisor information requests.
Ensure all statutory remittances and filings are completed accurately and on time.

Relationship Management

Maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, lenders, and external advisors.
Respond to inquiries professionally and resolve issues promptly.
Support a high standard of customer service across all financial interactions.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
Proven full‑cycle accounting experience.
Demonstrated ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.
Strong experience preparing year‑end working papers and supporting external accountants/auditors.
Advanced QuickBooks Desktop experience (required).
Experience with GST, PST, and WorkSafeBC reporting.
Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
Experience managing cash flow, banking, and intercompany accounting.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.

Preferred

Experience in hospitality, restaurant, franchise, or construction industries.
Experience in a multi‑entity environment.
Experience with lender reporting and covenant compliance.
Previous leadership or team management experience.
CPA designation or progress toward CPA is an asset.
