Polar Performance Materials was founded in 2012 and produces ultra-high purity alumina (HPA) using a proprietary low-carbon process. The factory, located in Oakville Canada is powered with electricity generated by Niagara Falls. Polar’s HPA is increasingly necessary to manufacture products used in high growth, high purity semiconductor applications. Other applications include LEDs, lithium-ion batteries, thermal management materials, and technical ceramics utilized in aerospace, medical and industrial systems.

Position Overview
The Production Inspector is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections of powders, pellets, and finished products to ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, and internal procedures. This role plays a critical part in preventing non-conforming products from reaching customers by conducting visual inspections, dimensional measurements, density testing, packaging, and maintaining accurate production and quality records.
The Production Inspector works closely with Production, Quality, and Operations teams to identify quality issues, contain non-conforming materials, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Inspection & Testing
- Perform final inspections of finished products according to established work instructions and inspection procedures.
- Measure pellet dimensions, including length, width, and height using calibrated measuring instruments.
- Verify pellet shape, appearance, and dimensional conformity to product specifications.
- Measure pellet density using approved testing methods and ensure equipment is clean and functioning properly.
- Conduct visual inspections of Pellets.
- Inspect powders for using approved sampling and inspection methods.
2. Quality Documentation & Control
- Accurately record inspection and test results in production records, inspection forms, and electronic systems.
- Maintain traceability of inspected materials, including lot numbers, batch numbers, and product status.
- Segregate, identify, and report non-conforming materials immediately.
- Assist in investigations involving quality incidents, foreign material findings, customer complaints, or product deviations.
3. Packaging & Material Handling
- Pack finished pellets and products in accordance with approved packaging procedures and customer requirements.
- Verify packaging materials, labels, and product identification prior to shipment or storage.
- Ensure products are properly identified and protected from contamination or damage during handling and storage.
4. Equipment & Workplace Organization
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of inspection, testing, and packaging areas.
- Ensure measuring instruments and inspection equipment are handled properly and kept in good condition.
- Report damaged equipment or abnormal conditions that may impact product quality.
- Assist with equipment cleaning and housekeeping activities to maintain a safe and contamination-free work environment.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe working practices.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support compliance with customer requirements and quality management systems.
6. Other Responsibilities
- Assist Production and Quality teams with special projects, inventory counts, investigations, and process improvement activities as assigned.
- Provide support during customer audits, internal audits, and process validations when required.
- Cross-train in other production and inspection activities to support operational requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education in manufacturing, engineering technology, quality assurance, or a related field is considered an asset.
Experience
- Previous experience in manufacturing, quality inspection, or production environments preferred.
- Experience handling precision measurement equipment and inspection tools is an asset.
- Experience working with powders, ceramics, or advanced materials manufacturing environments is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and abnormalities.
- Ability to accurately use calipers, micrometers, density measurement equipment, scales, and other inspection instruments.
- Good mathematical and data recording skills.
- Ability to follow written procedures, specifications, and work instructions.
- Proficiency in completing inspection records and using electronic systems such as ERP or inventory management systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and manual handling activities.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) with appropriate lifting techniques or assistance.
- Ability to distinguish colors, identify small defects, and perform detailed visual inspections.
