IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN
POSITION FUNCTION
Design, install, repair and maintain irrigation systems at Royal Oak Burial Park.
KEY DUTIES
● Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and controllers
● Understand and operate irrigation controllers and use a computer and software for irrigation scheduling.
● Determine, order, and maintain appropriate supplies needed for regular irrigation maintenance.
● Winterize irrigation systems and water features.
● Maintain a variety of records, sketches and reports for maintenance and new installations.
● Ensure safety of work crews and the public through compliance and enforcement of all appropriate municipal, Worksafe BC and provincial environmental regulations.
● Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Cemetery Grounds Person as outlined in the attached Job Description
● Accomplish other related duties as assigned.
INDEPENDENCE
● Work is performed according to established routines, procedures and work orders;
● Work may be performed independently for extended periods of time with limited supervision;
● Work is assigned and supervised by the Lead Hand and / or the Manager of Grounds Operations;
● A worker in this position may have other workers assigned to assist them and in this instance the Irrigation Technician will be responsible for the limited supervision and direction of workers assigned to assist in the performance of irrigation tasks and projects;
● A worker in this position may be required to exercise a high level of independent judgement, discretion and decision making in the performance of work tasks of this position
KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Understand, prioritize and apply irrigation functions and apparatus necessary to perform all irrigation expectations;
● Use and maintain an assortment of hand tools and power tools
● Operate and maintain specialty equipment such as trenchers and vibratory plows;
● Operate vehicles to transport equipment and materials;
● Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of suppliers and contacts within the irrigation business and professional community;
● Understand and apply knowledge of:
(a) Burial Park mapping systems
(b) Advanced irrigation systems and techniques
(c) Safe work practices relating to the operation of equipment
(d) Municipal, Worksafe BC and provincial environmental legislation and regulation
● Maintain a cooperative working relationship with management, supervisors and all Burial Park personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Completion of Grade 12 or a recognized educational equivalency program.
● No less than 3 years experience in all operations of ground water irrigation installation and repairs;
● Working level operation of Word/Excel/Outlook and related specialty software
● Willingness to participate in continuing education programs, courses, and workshops to refresh, remain current with, or improve worker’s knowledge and skill levels related to changing irrigation best practices, standards, and environmental awareness related to the position;
● A current and valid British Columbia driver’s license;
● Sufficient mental health and stability, physical condition, strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of weather.
