Trylon is seeking a driven and technically proficient Business Development Manager - Construction Services to lead the sales efforts while supporting the estimating function within our steel installation operations. This role is responsible for identifying and securing new opportunities across vertical steel markets while ensuring accurate, competitive, and profitable project pricing.
The ideal candidate combines strong market knowledge, relationship-building skills, and hands-on estimating experience, with the ability to guide and elevate junior estimators.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Sales:
- Identify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities within utility, mining, telecom, government and all vertical steel markets.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, general contractors, and industry stakeholders.
- Monitor market trends, bid pipelines, and competitive landscape to position the company effectively.
- Collaborate with leadership to define growth strategies and target accounts.
Estimating & Pre-Construction:
- Lead and support the preparation of accurate cost estimates for steel installation projects, including towers, platforms, and structural modifications.
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to assess scope, risks, and constructability.
- Develop pricing strategies aligned with market conditions and company objectives.
- Ensure that estimates reflect labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and risk factors.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Mentor and coach estimators on best practices, pricing strategy, and technical understanding of steel installation.
- Establish standardized estimating processes, tools, and templates.
- Review and validate estimates prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Foster continuous improvement in estimating capabilities and efficiency.
Project Handoff & Support:
- Support smooth transition from estimating to project execution teams.
- Provide input on contract terms, scope clarifications, and risk mitigation.
- Remain engaged during early project phases to ensure alignment with estimate assumptions.
Qualifications:
- 5–10+ years of experience in steel installation, structural construction, or telecom / tower infrastructure.
- Proven track record in sales, business development, or client relationship management.
- Strong estimating experience with demonstrated ability to price complex steel installation work.
- Deep understanding of tower, platform, and vertical steel construction methods and market dynamics.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Experience, mentoring or managing estimators is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in estimating software, Excel-based pricing tools, and takeoff platforms.
- Knowledge of contract structures, risk assessment, and project controls.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to growth and process improvement.

Salary range for this position is expected to be between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, plus a sales incentive, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates must be located in Canada and legally eligible to work here.
