Security Systems Technician / Low-Voltage Technician

Shel-Bar Electronic Industries Ltd. is hiring an experienced Security Systems Technician to join our growing team.
We are a Canadian electronic security systems integrator specializing in the design, installation, service, commissioning, and maintenance of commercial and industrial electronic security systems.
Our work takes us across Canada, with major projects currently located in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Travel is a regular and important part of this position.
We are looking for experienced professionals who take pride in their workmanship, communicate effectively, solve problems independently, and understand the importance of quality, accountability, and customer service.
This is not an entry-level position, and it is not an IT support position.
Position Summary
The Security Systems Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting integrated electronic security systems at commercial, industrial, institutional, municipal, and critical infrastructure facilities throughout Canada.
Successful candidates are self-motivated professionals who are comfortable working independently, travelling to project sites, collaborating with customers and project teams, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout every stage of a project.
Key Responsibilities
- Install commercial and industrial electronic security systems.
- Install, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling.
- Install, configure, and service Access Control systems.
- Install, configure, and service CCTV and IP Video Surveillance systems.
- Install and service Intrusion Detection systems.
- Install intercom and communication systems.
- Install security panels, cameras, readers, locks, controllers, field devices, and associated hardware.
- Commission integrated security systems and perform functional testing.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, communication, network, and wiring issues.
- Complete preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, upgrades, and service calls.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Complete accurate service reports, commissioning documentation, deficiency reports, daily activity logs, and project records.
- Coordinate work with Project Managers, customers, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Maintain professional, clean, and organized installations.
- Follow Company Health & Safety requirements and client-specific safety procedures.
- Travel throughout Canada as required.
Required Qualifications
- Previous commercial low-voltage or electronic security installation experience.
- Experience with commercial Access Control, CCTV, IP Video, Intrusion, or integrated security systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Experience installing and terminating structured cabling.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English sufficient to safely interpret technical documentation, communicate professionally with customers and coworkers, and complete detailed service reports and project documentation.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel and work out of town as projects required
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Acceptable driver's abstract.
- Ability to obtain client-required security clearances.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Must pass a background check.

- Journeyperson Electrician, Registered Apprentice Electrician, Electronics Engineering Technologist, or equivalent industry experience
Projects Across Canada
Shel-Bar completes projects throughout Canada.
While many projects are located in Alberta, we regularly complete work in Ontario and other provinces for commercial, industrial, institutional, municipal, utility, and critical infrastructure clients.
Applicants should be prepared for:
- Regular out-of-town travel
- Overnight and extended project assignments
- Air and vehicle travel
- Commercial and industrial construction environments
- Remote project locations
- Occasional overtime when required to support project schedules

Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires:
- Working on active commercial and industrial job sites.
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Climbing ladders and working from elevated work platforms.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working overhead.
- Lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and materials.
- Driving between customer and project locations.
- Wearing required personal protective equipment.
