Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and in accordance with The University of Winnipeg Faculty Association Collective Agreement (2020-2027). Subject to budgetary approval, the date of appointment is anticipated to be August 1, 2026; later start dates are negotiable. The academic appointees will represent various disciplines and career stages, and will contribute to the Anishinaabemowin Program within the Indigenous Languages Program. The range of expertise we are seeking includes:
- Anishinaabemowin second-language teaching, including immersion methods, land-based camps, or curriculum and materials development
- Indigenous language revitalization methods, including language nests and mentor apprentice programs
- Indigenous language pedagogy and teacher training
- Descriptive linguistics, with expertise in Algonquian Languages
We are looking for individuals with a strong commitment to Indigenous focused teaching and demonstrated competency with Anishinaabemowin and Anishinaabe culture and communities. Skills related to language revitalization teaching methods and trauma informed teaching practice are an asset. Candidates should demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, and service experience consistent with the rank they are seeking. Ideally, at least one of the successful candidates will be an experienced language teacher with immersion camp experience.
While applicants with a Master’s degree are preferred, candidates with other educational qualifications, and candidates with lived experience, are also encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who identify as Indigenous.
Applicants are requested to submit a complete application that will include (all documents in PDF):
- a cover letter outlining relevant experience in teaching and university service
- a current curriculum vitae
- a teaching statement
- a statement indicating their relationships to and with Indigenous languages, cultures, and communities
- names and contact information of three references who can speak about the applicant’s Indigenous-specific teaching and service (referees will be contacted soon after short-listing of an applicant)
In the later stages of the selection process, additional steps supporting the substantiation of Indigenous identity will occur for individuals claiming Indigenous identity and who are invited to an interview with the selection committee.
Applicants must submit all of the above materials through The University of Winnipeg’s online recruitment system (https://www.northstarats.com/University-of-Winnipeg).
Review of applications will begin on July 27, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. We appreciate all applicants’ interest but please note that only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
