Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Diagnostic Services, the Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologist (MRIT) within Radiology & Computed Tomography (CT) performs radiographic and computed tomography examinations in accordance with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) practice standards, OSMH policies, and established quality and safety protocols. The MRIT plays a key role in diagnostic imaging, patient care, and quality management while ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all required imaging examinations and assist with the regular workload.
- Adhere to hospital and Diagnostic Imaging Department policies, procedures, goals, and objectives in compliance with the Quality
Management System (QMS).
- Support and uphold the hospital’s mission, vision, and values in interactions with patients, staff, and the general public.
- Assist in the daily operations of CT and General Radiology services, including planning, organizing, and overseeing patient care and
quality activities.
- Ensure the timely delivery of safe, accurate, and high-quality imaging services in accordance with QMS standards.
- Report and document incidents following OSMH policy and QMS guidelines.
- Participate in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of quality control and assurance programs under the QMS framework.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, optimize workflow, and mitigate risks.
- Contribute to the orientation of new staff and the re-orientation of existing staff as required.
- Assist in training MRT students as assigned.
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images while identifying and troubleshooting issues related to patient positioning and technical
factors.
- Maintain accountability for inventory management within the department per QMS guidelines.
- Triage examinations and support the overall function of the Diagnostic Imaging Department to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Actively participate in department huddles, meetings, and QMS initiatives.
- Engage in organizational committees as required.
- Foster positive working relationships with staff, physicians, volunteers, and patients.
- Demonstrate self-awareness and contribute to conflict resolution and effective teamwork.
- Promote a positive and collaborative work environment within the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
- Maintain a commitment to regular attendance and reliability.
- Stay clinically competent by actively participating in continuing education and quality management programs to ensure ongoing
proficiency.
- Share knowledge gained from educational opportunities and recommend best practice improvements.
- Complete all required learning modules in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
Education
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Radiation & Imaging Technology program is required.
- Successful completion, or workings towards completion, of Computed Tomography Imaging Certificate (CTIC) is required.
- Registered member, in good standing, with the College of Medical Radiation & Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required. CPR Level HCP (Health Care Provider) will also be considered as an equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in radiology and computed tomography is preferred.
- IV certification or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. Experience with IV initiation may be considered.
Skills and Traits
- Must be able to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the role, including standing and walking for extended periods, frequent and repetitive pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as safely operating equipment.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, as outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).
