Who we're looking for
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Entry-Level Full Stack Engineer to join our development team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual with limited professional experience to gain practical exposure to both frontend and backend development. Experience is not the key determination of this role; we'd prefer candidates who have a math, physics background as long as they are interested in getting into the IT industry.
You will have the opportunity to work with modern technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the development of high-quality web applications and AI-powered features in an agile environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with senior developers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand project requirements and contribute to the development of web applications.
- Assist in designing and developing frontend and backend components using Java and other relevant technologies.
- Build and maintain user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks.
- Develop RESTful APIs and backend services using Java frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code in accordance with coding standards and software development best practices.
- Assist with integrating AI and machine learning capabilities into web applications, such as recommendation systems, intelligent search, data classification, automation, or large language model-based features.
- Work with APIs provided by AI and machine learning platforms, and help connect AI services with existing backend systems.
- Support the preparation, processing, and validation of data used by AI or machine learning applications.
- Conduct testing of frontend, backend, and AI-enabled components to identify and resolve defects, performance issues, and integration problems.
- Assist in deploying and maintaining applications on application servers or cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry developments related to full stack development, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related quantitative or technical field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn, experiment, and grow in a fast-paced technical environment.
- Basic understanding of Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Basic understanding of web application architecture, including frontend, backend, databases, and APIs.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
- A strong interest in software development and a desire to work in a full stack engineering role.
- Interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis, or AI-powered software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is considered an asset but is not required:
- Exposure to Python or common data-processing libraries.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts such as supervised learning, classification, regression, recommendation systems, or natural language processing.
- Experience using AI or large language model APIs, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks or libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience with prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, embeddings, or AI agents.
- Familiarity with Docker, Nginx, SQL, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and cloud platforms.
- Academic projects, personal projects, internships, or research involving software development, data analysis, AI, or machine learning.
Additional Information
- The role is a on-site role which requires you to locate in Calgary, AB.
- The work schedule is Monday - Friday, with the option to WFH one day per week.
- Salary Range is $65,000-75,000 CAD per year.
