We are a small, collaborative team based and we are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable Bookkeeper / Finance Coordinator to provide ongoing accounting and financial support for our growing tour company.
About the Role
This role would be a good fit for someone who enjoys accurate, methodical work, is comfortable working independently, and likes being part of a small team where their work directly supports memorable travel experiences around the world.
The position will involve regular bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including transaction entry, reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, sales tax support, payroll-related record keeping, receipt categorization, and month- and year-end support. It will also include working on accounts payable with our partners and providing support to our staff that are involved in working with our clients and putting these tours together. In this role you will also contribute to ongoing efforts to streamline our operations and embrace technology to improve how we work.
As our business grows, we are bringing day-to-day bookkeeping in-house. This role will take ownership of regular bookkeeping responsibilities while continuing to work closely with, and receive support from, our external accounting provider.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will help with:
- Recording and maintaining accurate financial transactions
- Updating and maintaining the general ledger
- Reconciling accounts and reviewing transactions for accuracy
- Recording debits, credits, expenses, sales revenue, and payments
- Assisting with month-end and year-end documentation
- Preparing bookkeeping information for assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenditure accounts
- Supporting GST and tax document preparation
- Assisting with payroll-related bookkeeping and record keeping
- Reviewing and categorizing receipts and supporting documentation
- Helping identify and resolve discrepancies
- Maintaining confidentiality with customer and company financial information
- Supporting cash flow, accounts receivable, collections, and supplier payments as needed
- Helping improve bookkeeping processes, timelines, and procedures
- Collaborating across the organization on strategic initiatives and business improvements
What We’re Looking ForMust Haves
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent education/training in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar platforms
- A solid understanding of bookkeeping, payroll, record keeping, reconciliations, and financial documentation
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accurate work
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team
- Discretion and respect for confidential information
Nice to Have
- Experience with Hubdoc or receipt/document management software
- Experience in tourism, travel, small business, andmulti-currency transactions
- Experience with GST, supplier payments, customer deposits, and accounts payable
- Interest in nature, wildlife, travel, birding, or conservation
