Position Summary
The CNC Programmer & Tooling Specialist is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs, tooling systems, and machining processes to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality components. This role works closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to improve manufacturing performance, reduce cycle times, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Programming
· Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for milling, turning, drilling, and machining operations.
· Use CAD/CAM software to generate toolpaths and machine programs.
· Verify program accuracy through simulation, dry runs, and production prove-out activities.
· Troubleshoot programming issues and implement corrective actions.
· Maintain revision control and documentation of all CNC programs.
Tooling Management
· Select cutting tools, tool holders, inserts, fixtures, and work holding systems.
· Design and implement custom tooling and fixturing solutions.
· Establish tooling standards and best practices for repeatable setups.
· Monitor tooling performance and identify opportunities to improve tool life and productivity.
· Coordinate tooling inventory requirements and support vendor relationships.
Process Improvement
· Analyze machining processes to reduce cycle times, scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs.
· Optimize machining parameters, feeds, speeds, work holding methods, and setup practices.
· Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Recommend equipment, tooling, fixture, and process upgrades to improve efficiency and quality.
Production Support
· Provide technical support to CNC operators, setup technicians, and production supervisors.
· Assist with new product introductions, prototypes, and production ramp-up activities.
· Develop setup sheets, tool lists, work instructions, and process documentation.
· Support troubleshooting of machine, tooling, fixture, and quality issues.
Quality & Safety
· Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, quality standards, and company procedures.
· Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
· Follow and promote company safety procedures, machine guarding requirements, and safe work practices.
· Support audits and quality improvement initiatives as required.
Qualifications
Education
· Diploma, certificate, or degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Machining, Tool & Die, or a related field.
· Equivalent combination of technical training and relevant machining/programming experience may be considered.
Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
