Calnetic is a growing software company based in Calgary, focused on building clean, modern applications that solve real problems for businesses. We specialize in automation tools and SaaS products that make workflows smarter, faster, and easier.
This role sits at the center of our delivery work: a hands-on talented and driven developer building and improving software across a portfolio of client projects. Some are long-running systems we maintain and modernize, others are brand-new builds we're standing up from scratch. You'll move across both, shipping real features and owning problems end to end.
We work in a modern JavaScript / TypeScript stack. Node.js on the back end, React and Next.js on the front, MySQL for data, and AWS for infrastructure and deployment — with Cursor and AI tooling built into the everyday workflow. You'll write code, but you'll also shape how things get built: scoping ambiguous asks, making sensible technical calls, and keeping quality high across everything you touch.
This is a build-and-grow role. We're looking for someone ambitious who wants to take on more over time... bigger projects, more ownership, and the trust that comes with being a senior the team and our clients can rely on.

Responsibilities
Build, test, and ship full-stack features across multiple projects — Node.js services and APIs on the back end, React / Next.js on the front.
Jump into existing codebases you didn't write — reverse-engineer, fix, extend, and safely modernize load-bearing applications, some lightly documented.
Stand up new projects from the ground up, making pragmatic architecture and data-model decisions as you go.
Design and work with MySQL schemas and queries; keep data models clean and performant.
Deploy and operate on AWS, with testing and controlled releases treated as non-negotiable.
Use Cursor and AI tooling heavily to move faster and raise the ceiling on what you can deliver.
Break ambiguous asks into scoped, estimated work with credible timelines — not just a build plan.
Create technical documentation as needed, especially workflow and process diagrams.
Demo to clients as needed and share progress on a weekly / bi-weekly cadence.
Progressively take on more scope and ownership as you ramp.
Requirements
You are:
- A strong, hands-on developer who takes pride in shipping quality work.
- A clear communicator in English: concise, to the point, and able to explain your thinking and ideas.
- Genuinely motivated to succeed, proactive about providing value to Calnetic and its clients, and eager to grow into greater ownership.
- Punctual, consistent, and reliable — someone who gets things done.
- A team player who supports the people around them and collaborates well inside an established team without being territorial.
- Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive information; comfortable operating under confidentiality expectations.
- Curious about how each business actually runs, so your solutions fit the operation and not just the spec.
You bring (must-have):
- 7+ years of hands-on full-stack development in a professional environment (startups fine; larger-company experience a plus).
- Strong Node.js experience and strong React / Next.js experience.
- Strong MySQL and relational database design; comfortable owning schemas, queries, and performance.
- Comfort inheriting, maintaining, and modernizing systems you didn't build — reverse-engineering and safely overhauling custom applications.
- Advanced reasoning and a natural problem-solver's instinct: a genuine logical thinker.
- The ability to break an ambiguous ask into scoped, estimated work with a credible timeline.
- Testing and controlled releases treated as a habit and a value, not an afterthought.
- Heavy use of AI in your development workflow — Cursor especially — to boost your efficiency and capability.
Bonus / strongly preferred:
- TypeScript across the stack.
- Solid AWS experience — deploying and running applications on common services.
- Containers (Docker)
- CI/CD pipelines and modern source-control workflows.
- API design experience (REST) and third-party integrations.
- Experience being a technical point of contact on a project — managing up to leadership with good options and constructive pushback.
